What a remarkable result! Electric fish directly use signals from others to 'collectively sense' their environment. Note, this is different from flocking etc., which is based on behavioural responses... wild (and reminds me of multi-sensor networks)

We did it!!! 🚴‍♂️💨We cycled Lands End to John o’Groats (most southern to northern pts of UK): 1100 miles (1770 km). 12 days. 14000 m of ascent (and descent). 2 broken spokes. 5 punctures (all in a single day). 1 new wheel. -1 pair of Crocs. Countless muesli bars.

Wow! Beautiful fab from Ming Wu and colleagues at @UCBerkeley -- 128 x 128 pixel MEMS silicon photonic scanner for LIDAR! Results like this make me think large-scale MEMS will be transformative for many other fields very soon (e.g. MHz SLMs for brain sciences)

I strongly agree with this sentiment, that the circuit-level understanding of many of the most complex and common brain disorders will lead to a bluring of the line between biologics and traditional neurotech. It's a key tenent of our programme thesis:

It was a lot of fun discussing how neurotech will “Biologizing the future” at @SynBioBeta last week. One take away: as we come to understand mental health disorders as circuit problems, we will see a lot more convergence between drug and device therapies.

A high-performance photonic QC stack in a commercial 300 mm fab, including: - high eff photon detectors (~90%) - low-loss BTO phaseshifters (0.5 dB/cm) - low-loss SiN waveguides (1.5 dB/m) to reiterate *this is all made in GlobalFoundries process* congrats to @PsiQuantum !

My colleague just put me onto the MASTER-8 😱 +/- 10 V programmable pulse trains across 8 channels, triggering between channels… what a beastl! (I know you could do this with an NI card, but it doesn’t look as cool as this 20 yr + old instrument that still works flawlessly)

This is a huge deal: the first ultrasonic Ca2+ reporter! I think we’re going to see huge leaps in ultrasound hardware engineering + genetic engineering over the coming years! Can US imaging may become as routine as 2p optical imaging… the million dollar question

I can't emphasize how big a deal: partnering with a Tier-1 foundry and actually brining in NEW tools into their production line (incl. NbN for SC detectors!) is HUGE. These foundries are serious places (GF has a $5.5B revenue!) and it shows they believe in PsiQ's vision.

I’m still a relative newbie to neuroscience, but this is one of the most INSANE experiments I’ve seen in **any** field: activating a presynaptic neuron in one brain region and measuring the postsynaptic response in another brain region 2 mm away!! 🤯🧠🔬

Thrilled to share my PhD work, out in @nature today. @fisekmehmet & I developed an all-optical approach to study long-range connectivity across brain areas. Upshot: visual feedback is spatially organized & nonlinearly integrated in V1 apical dendrites.

Important result: low-power transcranial focused ultrasound can significantly reduce essential tremor. Doesn't seem to be thermal. Lot's more work to do, understand patient variability etc, but certainly promising.
