Great read. Thanks for giving us insight into your process. You tossed a lot of passable clues in the scrap heap — I’m impressed by your restraint to not let a few slide and say “good enough.” The audio clue definitely elevated my solving experience.
Ten factorial (aka 10!) seconds is exactly six weeks.
There are 7 days in a week
There are 24 = 8 x 3 hours in a day
There are 3600 = 10 x 9 x 5 x 4 x 2 seconds in an hour
So 6 weeks has 6 x 7 x 8 x 3 x 10 x 9 x 5 x 4 x 2 seconds, which equals 10 factorial

I made a solution page, but then we forgot to link to it in the newsletter this morning. We'll link to it tomorrow, but in the meantime it's here:

It's not too late! Contest closes Wednesday at midnight. If you still want to try, here's a link to the final stage so you don't have to re-solve them all:
The holy grail of crossword construction. I attempted to do this with a mini (5x5) a few years back and couldn't even get that off the ground. Marvelous.
