@Aimuawonsa_ Two things can be true at once. The same British recorded Dahomeys tributary relationship. Dahomey only gained sovereignty when Oyo fell to the Fulani. The Oyo that “begged” was a rump state and not even the power in the region.

@desmond9805 @SaintBlick Yup going into the forest from the coast was a death sentence for most Europeans. That’s why coastal forts were popular, even Ughoton was quite inland so the mortality rate was high. I bet that guy died from dehydration through diarrhoea from drinking that palm wine.
