In what may have been East Van’s greatest act of bravery this morning — this hero coaxed a skunk over to remove a jar from it’s head. The skunk knew it was being helped. We salute you! ❤️🦨
Amazing shots of the Aurora Borealis in Vancouver last night by
@diegohrebello
! Indeed a solar flare reached the planet last night, giving many lower latitude locations in Western Canada a bit of a show. Anyone else see them?
#SpanishBanks
I heard rumours that the elusive Kelvin-Helmholtz wave was out yesterday! The different speeds & densities of two air masses (inversion in our case) create the fleeting breaking ocean wave
Thanks Catherine O'Donovan (& her son who spotted them !) for the pic in

Waterspout spotted on Lake Okanagan this morning! Huge temperature different between air and warm lake must have created the right instability. Great pic taken from Carrs Landing by Shannon Chubb.
@pentononcbc
and I will chat more about it this afternoon...
Thank you!! It has been such a lovely send-off from my

We don't always get a chance to visualize sea level rise. But this King Tide was forecast to push storm surge ~40 cm >than high tide. That's roughly what current climate projections have happening to Vancouver by 2050. Might not sound like much but it amplifies storms like today
HUGE WIN! After telling the 2-year it was time to go to sleep last night....
We played the 'Why?' game for about 20 rounds...
I made it all the way down to "because carbon is the universal building block for life as we know it" and he conceded defeat

Just stress ate a Toblerone triangle (white choc fyi) with a piece of dog hair attached and now the dog hair is sealed into my tooth with a nougat. See you on-air in 20 min
My kid just told me he loves me from the bottom of the ocean to the top of planet earth to the bottom of a hook dangling from a helicopter and someone needs to get this kid a Hallmark contract 🥺🥺🥺
3 yr old: let’s have cookies for breakfast
Me: we can’t have cookies for breakfast I’m sorry
3 yr old: YOU CAN DO IT I KNOW YOU CAN! You can make your own choices. I’ll support you. Let’s make this happen I know we can. I’m so proud of you!
Me: go get the cookies
It has begun!! Snowing on the North Shore. Golden retriever for snowflake reference size. Thanks

Accumulations def possible today across the South Coast today but there will be lots of variability!

will go down in the history books tonight for Atlantic Canada. There is potential to break many different kinds of meteorological records. And there will be severe impacts. Meteorologists are aligned on this one to get the message across.
‘Steam spout’ update! New video from another one on an adjacent lake this morning. These ones (several reported) were on Kalamalka in Oyama from Casey Nufeld. No cumulus in sight definitely looking like a steam devil.

Today I taught my 2-year old how to cup his hands and drink from a glacial fed river (don’t @ me lol)
So grateful that I was able to share that with him… These moments are increasingly important I am realizing..

Looking forward to being back at work next week (w all the mom emotions!) but I know

Vancouver the rumours are true -- starting tomorrow we will peel 1 min of light away from the hands of darkness.
(Translation: sunset gets LATER starting tomorrow (even if sunrise also gets later until the 21st).
Three generations of mothers having McDonald’s breakfast in the park!! Wesley and I (and Rodney 😂) are pretty damn lucky to have them in our lives. ❤️

!!
My mom: you have to have a nap
2 year old: why
My mom: to recharge your batteries
2 year old: I’m not a machine I’m a real boy and I have a skeleton
Me: game over
It's been 27 days now with no rain for Vancouver. And temps continue to run above seasonal next few days. A low pressure system finally looks to drop down the coast for Friday coming w a chance of showers. Poor air quality and fresh heat warnings for the BC Interior.
Me: What a lovely day. Merry Christmas everyone.
Toddler: Merry Christmas to all the spider eggs waiting to drop on our heads
Me: 😳
Toddler whispering: The spiders can’t hear us right now because they are inside their eggs
An honour to receive the

Media Award for environmental reporting. I was disappointed to not be there in person but we were live taping our latest 2050 episode so they were very understanding! Thank you -- I feel very proud of this!
Truly wild that both sides of Canada dealing w record rain, washed-out roads, isolated communities. Atmospheric rivers are happening all the time. It's how most of the water near equator gets transported northward. Climate change means they will continue to become more intense.
I can't believe I'm writing this. Pockets of the Lower Mainland, like Abbotsford, may have a humidex reading close to 50 on Monday. FIFTY. Check on relatives, friends, strangers. This is life-threatening heat.

What an honour to receive this among a room full of the people who are actually doing the incredible work when it comes to emergency preparedness.

Monday night sunset in Skidegate, Haida Gwaii... after a seriously stormy season, possibly the best weather has been happening on Haida Gwaii, central & north coast the past few days! Thank you Marcia Piercey for the great shot
