Today, we recall JPII's 1986 visit to India. Lauding the beauty of Indian culture, he honored M. Gandhi and praised the Christian service to the poor & abandoned in the work of Sts. Teresa of Calcutta, Chavara and Alphonsa. JPII consecrated India to Mary (Shivaji Park, 2/9/86).

The Archdiocese of Washington D.C. has designated the JPII Shrine as a “Jubilee site” eligible for a Jubilee indulgence. This indulgence — a gift of God’s mercy — may be obtained “by making a pilgrimage, piously visiting a sacred place, or performing a work of mercy and penance."
