Checkout one of our former PhD students @DrJHellgren talking about the dangers of Alford pleas (when a defendant accepts a plea deal resulting but maintains their innocence) on @Radiolab. Our alumni do amazing work! @JohnJayResearch @GC_CUNY
A while back, I joined @Radiolab to discuss the outrageous nature of Alford pleas. 🎙️ These controversial legal tools need more scrutiny. Stay tuned for my upcoming research on this topic! Listen to the episode here:

Congratulations to two of our former PhD students - @_DavidZimmerman and Dario Rodriguez - on their new paper in @lhb_apls! Check it out below.
Legal stakeholders value eyewitness ID differently but show consistent policy preferences, sometimes diverging from science. Yet, all support using research to guide policy on eyewitness evidence. Zimmerman & Rodriguez explains more here- @apls41 @aplssc

Check out this new article on defendant's perceptions of the voluntariness of their pleas by former PhD student @mbfessinger and faculty member @MargaretKovera!
How do large plea offers affect defendants' perceptions of the voluntariness of their guilty pleas? Find out in our new paper based on @mbfessinger's dissertation work just published in @lhb_apls! More information is available at @JohnJayResearch

New #OpenAccess paper from our faculty member @MargaretKovera. Facial recognition matches lack evidentiary value when searches are conducted on large databases, like state driver's license photos, despite low error rates. @JohnJayResearch
New open access article. Police practices for suspect development likely explain racial disparities in mistaken identifications better than memory failures (e.g., facial recognition matches; identifications elicited with coercive interrogation techniques).

Our own @MargaretKovera has been nominated for President-Elect of the @APA! She certainly has our #1 vote. And if you want an experienced leader who understands how to produce science and advocate for reform based on that science, she should be your candidate too! #MBK4APA
I'm on the ballot for APA President-Elect to ensure that we advocate for justice using our best psychological science and to improve access to mental health care for all. If you are an APA member, your ballot will be in your email on August 1. I would appreciate your #1 vote!

Kudos to PhD student (soon to be faculty at John Jay) @katzmanjackie and faculty member @MargaretKovera on this important work exploring the role that policing might play in racial disparities in mistaken identifications.
SO excited that this is out w/ @MargaretKovera ! Our paper (in @lhb_apls) argues that the over policing of Black people is a better explanation for racial disparities in eyewitness misidentifications than is the own-race bias. Read #OpenAccess here:
