Ze zijn niet hetzelfde. Arendt zei dat het nationaalsocialisme noch tot links noch tot rechts behoorde. Het leunt wel het meest aan bij het communisme omwille van de totalitaire ideologie. De steun van grootindustriëlen zoals Krupp en IG Farben voor Hitler inderdaad significant, maar dit was meer een pragmatische keuze om hun belangen tegen vakbondsactiviteiten te beschermen. En hoewel ook Henry Ford bewondering had voor sommige aspecten van Hitler's regime & de Ford Motor Company zakelijke relaties had met Nazi-Duitsland, werden de beslissingen van Ford & andere bedrijven vaak gedreven door winst en markttoegang, niet door ideologische overeenstemming met nazi-politiek. Bovendien heeft Ford na de oorlog beweerd dat ze geen controle meer hadden over hun Duitse fabriek na de inbeslagname door de nazi's.

Having the courage to follow your own unique path, even when it's sometimes uncomfortable, is ultimately the key to building genuine, valuable friendships.

According to Milgram's experiments, only about 20% of people have the psychological strength to think critically & resist authority. Second-order thinking goes even one step further than critical thinking because it adds an extra layer of complexity by asking "and then?" after the first series of consequences. Therefore, the percentage of the population capable of this type of complex thinking & expressing themselves about it when it is not convenient - which takes a lot of courage - is likely to be very low.
