So important to mark the service and sacrifice off those of Bomber Command. They served to protect our freedom. The Men of the Dams installation pays tribute to those who failed to return.
An emotional moment as Dinghy Young and his crew return to the spot they were washed up returning from the Dambuster raid 81 years later.
#becauseweremember
Operation Chastise, 75 years today, 8 aircraft were lost during the raid on the Ruhr dams, 3 aircraft turned back and 8 aircraft returned from the operation.
Johnny was a great supporter of the IBCC and helped raise funds throughout the development. He was passionate about ensuring all those who served and supported the Command were recognised.
A true hero and gentleman.
A very Happy Birthday to ATA Pilot, Mary Wilkins Ellis who is 101 years old today. Mary was interviewed last year at her home on the Isle of Wight.
She still holds a valid pilot’s license, but no longer flies solo.
Today is the day, the opening of the IBCC doors to the public. A big thank you goes out to everyone for your continued support and we hope to see you visiting very soon! Here is an image of the IBCC as taken by supporter Des Byrne on our veterans day.
