🌟 We are delighted to be the only organisation in the UK offering accredited attendance programmes:
✅ Inclusive Attendance CPD for all staff
✅ Inclusive Governors CPD
✅ Inclusive Attendance KITE Mark
✅ Inclusive Attendance Implementation
We are building a fantastic resource pack for attendance leaders. A national crisis requires a national solution - we have started a titanic shift! Changing children’s lives!🙏❤️👇
NATIONAL ATTENDANCE NETWORK UPDATE: I have posted the following two documents for your reference. There is an additional 3 files of good practice added. Over 55 free resources now uploaded.
Week 3 of the whole school approach to restorative practice and how we appreciate positive behaviour. Attendance now 97%, punctuality outstanding, 2 behaviour incidents in one week (minimal), meet and greets and a common language of RRS being embedded! Paul Dix 🙏
Read this! Section 19 reinforces education rights for children with health needs. Those facing medical/mental health issues, unable to attend school, are entitled to full-time equivalent education. Ensuring equality in educational opportunities for all!
OFSTED and ATTENDANCE: hot off the press! I have now saved the OFSTED crib sheet to the files section in the Foundations National Network group. Tried and tested this week by myself during an inspection - it worked extremely well!!🙏👇
I am calling on all ATTENDANCE LEADERS, and schools, to ‘break the ladder’ and get rid of attendance ladders! It’s now time to
#BeBrave
and do something different
#attendanceframework
DM me for details. 530 schools cant be wrong!
My advice, if you want to create a culture of understanding. Never speak to a parent or child in % ever again! Instead embed a child-centred staged approach. Big takeaway - use days! DM me for details.
#BeBrave
Ultimately, I want to support schools and save months of work by providing an attendance framework. This will allow schools to focus on the improvement job - working with children. DM me for details. Join over 530 schools using the same framework
ATTENDANCE: tomorrow I will launch the National Attendance Network. A platform to share practice, ask questions, and meet new colleagues from around the country - Attendance Community!🙏 add your name to the list, I have a few more to add tomorrow 👇
Reflect on your attendance ladder actions - if they do not make sense break the ladder👇if the approach is not evidence-informed break the ladder 👇 if staff are not provided with Professional Development to support children… break the ladder 👇
ATTENDANCE & INSPECTIONS: coming soon to the National Attendance Network - I will be uploading a ‘tried and tested’ crib sheet for future OFSTED visits, this will be uploaded to the network for free!
Summer schools would be fantastic. The government should work with supply agencies and offer supply staff the opportunity to work and make up for lost £ during this pandemic. Everyone’s a winner!

Attendance & PA Year To Date: 93.8% primary schools 19.5% PA
90.8% secondary schools 27.8% PA
86.4% special schools 40.3% PA
78% response rate only! Let’s look beyond the figures!
In September 2023 schools will be expected to cross reference their Attendance framework to this paper 👇 a statutory paper. Are you able to do this against the summary of expectations? If not DM me or email me. Wharris

2021 autumn term, 23.5% of all pupils were persistently absent. A Lead Inspector tried to tell me a schools PA at 24.1% was way too high. I agree but compared to the above - NO! Fight your corners and ensure reality is understood, we live in a new world!
I am not suggesting you replace this ladder👇 with another! A child-centred and evidence informed framework, ongoing CPD to create a whole school culture of everyone being responsible for attendance, actions rather than headlines and much more! DM me
#BeBrave
Coming soon to the Foundations National Network - OFSTED crib sheet. Tried and tested today and extremely well received. Easy to use and to populate! It supports schools to look past the Headline Data and provide a narrative 👇 a brief example 👇
I have made the decision to delete the TEAMs National Attendance Network group this morning due to misuse, it was never meant to work via email threads. This caused stress for some colleagues and this cannot happen. I will start a new group after half term.
OFSTED and Attendance - understand your strategic approach to improving attendance 👇 culture changing. Identify the urgent actions from your previous OFSTED 👇
🛑 IMPORTANT: New Statutory Attendance Requirements Effective August 19th, 2024! 🛑
Attention School Leaders and Staff! New rules will transform attendance management. Are you ready❓Ensure you’re prepared to meet all new requirements!

1 of 2: Statutory DFE requirements from September '24:
✅ Understand attendance Vision, Values & Ethos.
✅ Foster a whole-school attendance culture.
✅ Provide CPD for all staff.
✅ Maintain a clear policy.
✅ Grasp demographic group dynamics.
DFE papers school MUST consider and cross reference their Attendance strategy or framework to. The evidence-informed 5 Foundations framework completely compliments these papers 👇 contact me for details and further resources 👇
This document underscores the significance of cultivating a school-wide attendance culture and delivering professional development to all staff members. Discover the strategies for achieving this on our website.
I am not an emotional man, normally. However, I have just had tears roll down my face watching this advert. It’s exactly why EVERY school should have a child-centred framework to support attendance. Understand the root cause
Unless we understand the root cause - nothing changes. SUPPORT before IMPROVEMENT must be the approach all schools take. Our systems are not setup to support children from all backgrounds, addressing social justice issues MUST be a priority, otherwise the gap will widen 👇
Yes attendance is an expectation. Only if the school setting is built on connectedness and belonging. If you haven’t got the right whole school culture, don’t expect children to ‘just turn up’

If you contacted me yesterday - thank you! I will work through the DMs and contact you soon. The National Network is made up of schools who are involved in the Foundations attendance programme. Contact me for details. 👇

Some research I pulled together regarding the link between attendance and Mental Health. I will share this at the next WHMAT Attendance Leaders Meeting. If children do not feel like they belong will they attend school? Is fining encouraging connection?🤔
I have reflected🤔 Along with DFE attendance data, I would like the DFE to publish the % reduction in ‘wait time’ to access external services, which will impact positively on attendance.
@PookyH
@teamsquarepeg
@NotFineinSchool
Low attendance is a safeguarding concern, low academic outcomes, inconsistent behaviour, inconsistent T&L -
ultimately the child will not develop holistically 👇 let’s make a change and difference together 🙏👇
ATTENDANCE: follow a child into registration tomorrow morning, in fact follow two. Are all children receiving the same consistent inviting welcome? Do you have a whole school culture building belonging and connectedness, to improve attendance?👇
ATTENDANCE: a colleague informed me that Ofsted LOVED the framework and the schools approach - “nothing more you can do!” Have a go at cross referencing your attendance approach to the DFE 2022 attendance paper. 👇
Very exciting week! I contributed to an article focusing on the attendance barriers schools face. Keep your 👀 open! We face many barriers, without giving too much away…👇👇
Attendance: Do you report in % and talk in % to parents and children? If the answer is yes, ask yourself why? If it’s because you always have done, then it could be worth sending me a DM. Do something different!

2021 autumn term, the most recent period for which data is available, 23.5% of all pupils were persistently absent, and 1.4% were severely absent. 2018/19 academic year, the figures for persistent and severe absence were 10.9% and 0.8% respectively.
How’s your school coping this week? Remember if children are unwell they need rest and understanding. Don’t put pressure on you or CYP - ignore the figures, focus on your school community🙏 we are ALL facing a difficult winter - in this together ❤️
🚨 Breaking! Our brilliant team has just released the updated Attendance INSET PPT! 🎉 It features the latest DfE key requirements, a national data summary, and more. Get ready for September!

We are all suffering - you are not alone. We need to reset the culture of attendance, we need children and staff to build their systems again and we need no pressure from the DFE or OFSTED! Keep going 🙏❤️
Having had first hand experience of front facing attendance (at another school) during OFSTEd today, I can 100% say the OFSTED Foundations crib sheet worked like a dream! 🙏 I will share this on the National Network soon!
Dropped a lamb dinner to our 70 year old next door neighbour - good to care for others during these times! Now it’s full speed into the red wine. Happy Easter!!
Pupil on site attendance:
All state funded schools: 80.8% on 21 Jul, down from 86.9% on 7 Jul.
Primary: 84.4% on 21 Jul, down from 90.9% on 7 Jul.
Secondary: secondary schools was 75.5% on 21 Jul, down from 81.2% on 7 Jul. 😳

If we want to improve attendance outcomes for children in a post-pandemic world, we MUST do something different to the approach we had before! If not, nothing will change. Support MUST be prioritised before improvements can be made. 🙏❤️
I am gutted some staff could not access part of the meeting this evening. I am possibly looking at a date over the next two weeks to deliver the webinar again. 👀 here for the link soon!

The only person apologising is ME for any stress the National Attendance Network may have caused🙏 we are working together to tackle a National attendance problem and will continue to do so. Much ❤️

4 days of aches, no sense of taste, no sense of smell, sleeping for five hours a day, fatigue and head feeling like it has been in a vice. Obviously can not diagnose, however, I have been knocked off my feet. Stay safe and listen to the advice people!
❤️ Today was a pleasure collaborating with over 170 colleagues in Nottingham! Leading the charge in change and innovation, we extend a warm welcome to joining the Inclusive Attendance family and network. 🙏❤️
If just SLT and the attendance leader receive Professional Development, and no one else, you can not embed a whole school culture of everyone being responsible for school attendance 👇 DM me for details - I have whole school CPD!
🎉 Exciting news! Our website has been updated with new resources, including the latest Attendance policy fully aligned with the new DFE statutory guidance, complete with new coding gudinace. We now have 120 resources available for our staff!
📊Insights from National Data:
The latest national attendance data highlights a notable trend, while overall attendance rates have seen slight improvements, Persistent Absence (PA) is not moving quick enough.
Here's a breakdown of the most recent figures:
Wow over 2000 new followers in one week! 🙏 I think people relate as I am doing the job of an attendance leader. I understand frustrations, I get where you are coming from - we are here to support one another and make a difference 🙏❤️👇
A good day when the DFE representative for attendance informs me the attendance processes and systems for the MAT are the best practice she has ever seen!😉🍺
@dsheadexec
@SJ_Hartshorn
Track and support key demographic groups mentioned in this paper 👇also.. PA (90%) Severe Absence (50%) and Risk of PA (??) - it doesn’t tell us! We have an answer through the Foundations framework, come and join us🙏
@ChildrensComm
And PLEASE STOP using 100% Attendance! Ofsted inspector “PA is too high at 17%” I asked do you know the National current data then? OFSTED inspector “No” - then what are you making judgements on? I was representing a school last week.
BREAK THE LADDER! A multi-tiered system of support is a structured framework designed to address the diverse needs of children. This approach utilises data-driven decision-making to provide interventions and support in a tiered fashion. Completely evidence-informed. 👇
🛑 Are you prepared for the new Statutory requirements outlined in the DFE Working Together Paper? Join the 430 schools we collaborate with who are already exceeding these requirements by accessing the UK's only accredited attendance programme!

Children need to connect and belong to their social setting. Two demographic groups with the lowest attendance and the highest bullying rates recorded. Understanding the personal narrative is pivotal to supporting children 👇❤️🙏
I explained the absence during Autumn to an OFSTED inspector for a school I worked with… it’s not good enough was the response! IT IS NATIONAL DATA AND PATTERNS! 👇
Safeguarding is EVERYONES responsibility not just the DSL. I will not stop until we recognise in every school ATTENDANCE is EVERYONES responsibility. Attendance ‘top-trumps’ everything ❤️
I have never experienced a year like this for attendance! I have been working with schools who have gone from 96% one day and then down to 82% the day after - and I am referring to a number of schools! We will get there! 🙏❤️
Anyone else believe they have had THE VIRUS lost taste and smell and it still not returned to its normal self two weeks after feeling well again🤔 so so strange
@dsheadteacher
@SJ_Hartshorn
We are witnessing attendance figures like never before! We are dealing with different CYP and parents than before the pandemic. Do we carry on doing the same thing, or change our strategic direction and culture. Attendance tip-trumps everything 👇
Not the best of mornings. However, my friends
