Sins on social media has become a trend that’s treated insignificant. Many brothers and sisters are indulged in these acts of disobedience to Allah سبحانه وتعالى You see them doing sins like, Tabarruj, Slandering, Doing drugs, Alcohol, Vaping and smoking weed, Zina on camera and other sexual acts due to someone get exposed. At music concerts, At evil gatherings, At clubs, At hookah lounges, Singing music, and rapping. Some people treat these sins insignificant and post them on social media without a care and shame. If you asked any of them what state they would rather die and they would all answer in a state of righteousness. In order to die that way, one has to give up sinning and turn back to Allah سبحانه وتعالى in repentance before it’s too late. Aboo Haazim Salamah Ibn Deenaar رحمه الله said: “Look at every act that you would hate to die while committing, and then abandon it.” [Al-Musannaf, 7/194] There is no benefit in doing evil and showcasing to the world when none of us can’t handle the consequences of our sins in the dunya and in the grave. Seeking validation from other people by disobeying Allah will not benefit you except that the punishment of Allah is increasing. The prophet ﷺ said about those who expose their sins: “Everyone from my nation will be forgiven except those who sin in public. Among them is a man who commits an evil deed in the night that Allah has hidden for him, then in the morning he says: O people, I have committed this sin! His Lord had hidden it during the night, but in the morning he reveals what Allah has hidden.” [Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 6069] This is one of the scariest Hadith that we don’t pay attention to. May Allah سبحانه وتعالى guide us all and grant us His infinite mercy and blessings. Don’t let your sins overcome you to the point that it’s hard for you to turn back to Allah سبحانه وتعالى Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله says: “In order for a place to contain something, it must be free from whatever contradicts it. This principle applies to mankind and all creation as well as to belief and desires. So, if the heart is obsessed by belief in falsehood, there will be no place for truth. Accordingly, if the tongue is involved in trivial discourse, one shall be incapable of useful speech, unless falsehood is abandoned. Hence, if the body is busy doing wrong actions, then acts of worship will be inapplicable unless these contradictory actions are abandoned”. [Al–Fawaaid] Wallahi if a person was truly and sincere in making tawbah and give up sins Allah will forgive them and turn their bad deeds into good deeds. Allah says, “As for those who repent, believe, and do good deeds, they are the ones whose evil deeds Allah will change into good deeds. For Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” [Quran 25:70] And the most inspiring ayah to give you hope is, “Say, ˹O Prophet, that Allah says, “O My servants who have exceeded the limits against their souls! Do not lose hope in Allah’s mercy, for Allah certainly forgives all sins. He is indeed the All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” [Quran 39:53] And this is why a group of the scholars have said that this is the most hope-inspiring ayah in the Book of Allah! For no matter how grave one's sins are, if al- abd (ie: a slave) repented from them and was truthful (ie: sincere) in their turning back to Allah in tawbah (ie: repentance), Allah turns to them in forgiveness. No matter how big someone’s sins are, they cannot be bigger than Allah’s mercy. Almighty Allah says, "O children of Adam! As long as you call upon Me, putting your hope in Me, I will forgive you for what you have done, and I will not mind. O children of Adam! If your sins were to reach the clouds of the sky and then you sought My forgiveness, I would ˹still˺ forgive you. O children of Adam! If you were to come to Me with sins filling the whole world and then you came to Me without associating other gods with Me, I would certainly match your sins with forgiveness."
