Great point George. The Massey Tunnel was originally named the Deas Tunnel. John Deas was a free black man who came to BC from California in 1862. He was a pioneer who started a fish cannery on what is now Deas Island in 1871. Most people don’t know this. This is our history.
The Massey Tunnel is often called the Deas Tunnel. However, the Black Entrepreneur John Deas is not mentioned on the Gov't of BC website. How might your Government ensure that the history of people of colour in BC is not erased?
