Wishing all who celebrate Orthodox Christmas this week a peaceful and joyous celebration.

While Christmas offers a time of joy and peace to those celebrating, many Christians around the world today spend the season facing repression, imprisonment, and violence. The lack of religious freedom and the threat of persecution casts a dark shadow across Christmas festivities.

Between 500 to several thousand Christians have lived in secret in Afghanistan for years. Today the Taliban claim none exist. Christians there can face death for their beliefs.

We will continue our work to end repression, discrimination, and violence against Christians and to protect freedom of religion of belief for all.
