Amazon implemented its new return-to-office (RTO) policy that requires employees to return to the office five days a week starting January 2, 2025. While the decision sparked mixed reactions among employees, its most immediate and noticeable effect was on Seattle’s roadways: a significant increase in traffic congestion and travel times. Using INRIX Roadway Analytics, we dove into the impact of Amazon’s RTO to the Seattle roadwork.  Read our latest blog post to learn more: #Congestion #Amazon #BigData #Analytics #Innovation

Another great article about the 2024 Global Traffic Scorecard, this time from @Newsweek . "The data shows a trend with an economic boom that cities and towns have been experiencing since reopening after the COVID-19 pandemic. While the United States traffic levels are still behind 2020, a return to work and new events and businesses have re-energized downtown trips throughout the country." INRIX transportation analyst @BobPishue added, "[Traffic] is kind of a double-edged sword. I like to see people taking trips, to do things that they want to do, to see business conducted, to see electricians going out and fixing buildings and homes. Unfortunately, though, all of that personal activity results in traffic." Read the full article here: #TrafficScorecard #Congestion #DigData #AI #Innovation

In today's transportation industry, data from mobile devices and vehicles has become essential for developing smart mobility solutions and improving road safety. However, with increasing privacy concerns and regulations, transportation professionals face a crucial challenge: how to maintain data utility while protecting individual privacy. In the latest issue of @ITS_Int_News, INRIX Chief Product Officer Ahmed Darrat explains that the industry has moved past "peak GPS" and must now focus on solution outputs rather than raw data inputs. This shift requires a deep understanding of three key areas: data anonymization, quality, and governance. Read Ahmed's byline here: #BigData #Privacy #Innovation #AI #Mobility

In our latest blog post, Bob Pishue dives into the 2024 Global Traffic Scorecard. The annual benchmark - now in it's 18th edition - covers more than 900 urban areas across seven continents. Of the 945 urban areas studied, we found 520 saw increases in traffic delays versus 2023 (268 went negative, 157 saw no change), however, that growth has slowed in many places. For example, between 2022-2023, 74 of the top 100 urban areas saw double-digit traffic delay growth. However, between 2023-24, just 23 urban areas in the top 100 had double-digit growth. Traveling for the holidays? In partnership with @AAAnews , we analyzed 2024 traffic trends and previous holidays to predict that the worst traffic over the 10-day holiday period will occur on the weekends before Christmas and New Year’s, when travel times could be up to 30% longer nationwide. The best times to hit the road are before lunchtime or after 7 pm. “If schedules allow, leave bright and early or after the evening commute,” advises Bob Pishue, transportation analyst at INRIX. The holiday season is upon us, and millions of Americans are gearing up for travel. According to @AAAnews 's end-of-year travel forecast, a record-breaking 119.3 million people will be hitting the roads and skies between December 21 and January 1, narrowly surpassing the 2019 travel numbers. If you're planning a road trip, brace yourself. Nearly 90% of holiday travelers (107 million people) will be driving, and we predict major delays in some large metros. The worst travel day? Mark your calendars for Sunday, December 22. To minimize headaches, consider these strategies: - Travel early in the day, ideally before 11 AM - Avoid peak commuting hours - Be prepared for travel times to be up to 30% longer than usual - Have a flexible schedule if possible #holiday #traffic #smartmobility #technology #BigData #INRIXinsights

As part of @PBOTinfo’s Strengthening Mobility and Resilience in Transportation (SMART) grant project to implement the country’s first regulated zero emission delivery zone, we partnered with @BLineDelivers to deliver the first ever microfreight MDS integration. As part of this effort, we ingest B-Line GPS data in real-time, then convert these points into MDS format, thereby creating a standard way to share trend data on this emerging trend. We call this new product MDS as a Service (MDSaaS). By creating MDSaaS, we allow smaller operators with fewer resources (e.g., taxi companies) and larger enterprises who are trying to focus their technical resources on operations and profitability. Read more in Michael Schwartz's new blog post on MDSaaS and how we can help cities better monitor and manage multimodal trips: #BigData #Innovation #MDS #Micromobility

Travelers are getting ready to hit the roads with a record-breaking Thanksgiving holiday season, and traffic will be worse in some cities. The highest increase in traffic is expected to be in the areas around Boston, LA, New York City, Seattle, and Washington DC. Overall, more than 71 million Americans are expected to travel by car over the Thanksgiving holidays between Nov. 26 and Dec. 2. That’s 1.3 million more drivers than last year, with the busiest days forecast to be on Tuesday and Wednesday. In general, travelers hoping to avoid the worst of the traffic should consider leaving on Thanksgiving Day itself or departing in the mornings on the days leading up to Turkey Day.
