We were delighted to welcome the HRH Princess of Wales at Hymers College after today's appointment in the city. She met with our Head, Mr Stanley and Vanessa, one of our heads of school, before surprising some excited students with a quick chat and high fives!

Staff and students at Hymers were delighted to welcome HRH Princess Anne as she alighted from her helicopter en route to her destination in Hull. She was introduced to our longest serving member of staff, Mr Exley, before continuing her journey.

We are saddened to share the news of the passing of Old Hymerian Henry Foster who attended Hymers from 2011-2016. Our thoughts and prayers of the whole school community go to Henry’s family and friends.

A poignant moment in this morning’s Act of Remembrance. As the Head Boy and Head Girl read out the names of the 207 Hymerians who gave their lives for their country, 207 members of Years 7 & 9 stood up one by one. We will remember them.
Our Sixth Form prefects are selected to act as ambassadors for the school and for pupils in the younger years to look up to.
We wish them the best of luck for the 2020/21 academic year.

This morning, for the first time in two years - almost to the day - we held a whole Senior School assembly, with everyone gathered in the Main Hall. Thank you to all the pupils who took part and to Dr Main and Mrs Dickinson for their assembly on the Ides of March. How wonderful!
A fantastic result for our Year 6 Choir this afternoon. They won the Samuel Firth Trophy at the Mrs Sunderland Music Festival in Huddersfield in a very strong competition, achieving an outstanding score of 90+. Brilliant!

It was a moving and emotional final assembly for Mr Elstone. We thank him for his inspirational leadership over 13 years in which Hymers has gone from strength to strength and for his energy, insight and care. Hymers is a great school and will face the future confidently.

What an achievement - we have just heard the news that our Year 8 footballers have reached the final four in the country in the National Cup! Winning on 4-2 on penalties today, they are National Cup semi finalists and pictured here with very proud parents. A huge congratulations!

Earlier today we waved off pupils and staff as our South Africa Multi-Sports Tour got underway - with an airport bus ride! The group of 60+ pupils are away for two weeks, playing netball, rugby and hockey. Thank you to our tour sponsors - have a great time everyone!

The Year 6 Choir gave a wonderful performance today at St Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh. They will be singing at 1pm tomorrow in the Great Hall of Edinburgh Castle on the final day of the tour.
A stunning performance of 'The Armed Man' tonight! Thanks to all who braved the elements to take part and to watch. It was a truly memorable evening and a magnificent way to start our 125th anniversary celebrations.

Mrs Mason has been busy making scrubs bags for NHS staff. As it stands, 12 bags have been sent to the Oncology ward at Leeds Infirmary with 20 more due to be distributed this week.

What a fantastic Senior School end of year assembly! Pupils received awards, Heads of School announced, our Charities of the Year received our fundraising efforts, Brandesburton won the House Cup and we said goodbye to departing staff, including Mr Exley, retiring after 37 years.

It is with great sadness that today we lower our flag at Hymers to half-mast and mourn the loss of Her Majesty The Queen. The whole Hymers community send our deepest condolences to the Royal Family and all who knew her. We keep them in our thoughts and prayers. Rest in peace.
Yesterday evening saw our Director of Sport, Mr Walmsley, launch our 2023 sports tour to... New Zealand! We are thrilled to be able to be in the position to take netball, hockey and rugby teams on this trip. It promises to be an incredible adventure - more details will come soon.
