I was taught by a holocaust survivor. Every year her husband, a survivor as well, would tell his story to the 6th grade. She never spoke about it. They are both dead now, blessed be their memories, and their memory lives with me. Most Jews know a holocaust survivor.

A kid saw my star and said happy Chanukah so I said it back. Then he said ‘I meant Shabbos’ so I said ‘are you Jewish?’ He said yes and his friend said ‘he had his bar mitzvah last week.’ I asked if it was fun and he said yes. I told him being Jewish is awesome and to stay proud
