Completing this work between COVID and residency at @MGHNeurosurg was quite challenging. I’m grateful to @ritchie_chen, my scientific partner who elevated the project to new heights. Unbelievably excited to see what his new lab @NeurosurgUCSF creates.
We’re excited to extend noninvasive optogenetics beyond the brain to address a nearly 150-year-old question in a new study out today @Nature: Work led by @HsuehBrian, myself, and @KarlDeisseroth, with an amazing team in the D-lab and many others!

This approach, which required no specialized bioelectronics or surgery, can be generalized across the body to explore how peripheral organ function and brain states are coordinated. Thanks to @Anna_Beyeler and Yoni Coudec for the excellent News and Views!
