Sitting in hospital yesterday waiting for a biopsy listening to 2 older racists moaning about immigrants and how 'soft' the UK is. No-one complains about white immigrants. I come across this racism everywhere and I'm sick of it. Time to call them all out 👍🏼

Finally submitting/querying my book. It feels like I've been set free 😄 I started the sequel this morning, 2.8k already in the bag. I realise I added 7k with my revisions, although nothing was changed substantially. 2 nice preliminary responses from agents.

Is it me, or has the sci-fi that used to fill bookshelves in the 70s died? I don't see any new Van Vogt, Heinlein, Farmer, Smith, etc. Or even the old. My novel is vaguely sci-fi, & there are so few agents, at least in the UK, interested in it. Fantasy, etc - yes; sci-fi - no.

Do any of you fellow writers get excited when you get to the point where you're writing a key scene? When I wrote my 1st book, I wrote the 2 big scenes 1st. Not great for maintaining continuity! My next scene is major, in the most dramatic way my MC's true nature is revealed 😲

The WIP is now finished. 100,000 words, which seems to be my average. It feels very anticlimactic, but I'm looking forward to reading through it and revising/editing. Already thinking about the sequel 🙄

What do all you writers & authors think about mixing 1st + 3rd person narratives? Do you need to make it clear what's happening, or can we rely on our readers to work it out? I'm thinking of going down that route in my next book, but I'm not convinced it can work well.

Query rejection: 'Whilst ****** was intrigued by the premise, I am afraid that she did not feel quite gripped enough to absolutely fall in love with your concept.' That's the nicest way anyone's told me my work is crap.

Do any of you writers ever fall in love, or become deeply obsessed, with your MC? I couldn't live without mine, so I rewrote her happy ending to get her into a sequel. Now it's going to be a trilogy, at least 😄
