Updated my JOTY playlist. I expect around half of these to stick through the end of the year but I’m keeping the list a little longer because they’re all pretty good jams.
Still reeling from everything that happened yesterday. To watch these two play together is a dream come true. From the moment I first heard Phish roughly 30 years ago, I’ve been chasing moments like these. And damn did I get lucky with seats.
Any concern about Goose’s ability to engage a large audience in a shed has been firmly put to rest. SPAC was an incredibly visceral experience that looked, sounded, and felt BIG. Truly impressive work by both the band and the crew. Thank you
@goosetheband
🙏🙏🙏
Goose’s secret weapon is that
@peter_anspach
is an exceptional 2nd guitar player (rhythm guitar feels like a misnomer in this case). It seems now more than ever he focuses on keys so it makes extra special when we get jams like the Wysteria tonight. Excellent stuff.
I can’t help but wonder where the last 2 weeks of shows will stand in the greater discussion about
@goosetheband
’s body of work as time progresses. To me, it’s a creative high point for the band. I’m looking forward to remembering Winter ‘22 fondly years from now.
(Non-Goose content) Shoutout to this guy on Veterans Day. He saw unimaginable horrors at age 19 after being drafted into service. He’s my hero because he was (and still is) an amazing father despite what he endured as a kid. It’s never been easy for him. Thanks, Dad.
A well deserved tribute by some amazingly kind and thoughtful people. Ryan works HARD producing content about this band we all love. So cool of them to acknowledge him on his special sweet 16.
The Portland Tea win really has people riled up today, huh? I’ll say this: The winner of a matchup has little meaning. In my mind the JOTY bracket exists purely to encourage people to listen to the best jams and talk about it. Anything else that results is just a byproduct.
The next
@goosetheband
show is Roadrunner Boston on 3/23. It will be the first Goose headlining show within the city limits of Boston since they played the Paradise on 11/29/18. Bring on the hometown Goose! Who’s going to be there?
Today most Phish fans woke up, took some ibuprofen, and drank a liquid IV before trying to fall back asleep to ease the aches of an exhausting 4 night run. Meanwhile, Ryan wrote a blog and got on a flight. I’m convinced he’s not a real person.
I think people’s first reaction will be “Billy’s gonna sit in tonight!”, which is doubtful. Looking beyond tonight, though, it’s really thrilling that two of the most exciting acts to hit the jam scene in a generation have made it a point to meet. I hope they become fast friends
This is the kind of stuff that I was hoping for with 2024 Goose. Fresh look at an old song that had become fairly predictable. Absolute banger of a Myst right now.
Goose tunes and the number of shows since last played. Crazy!

PSA: Goose lottery is always an absurdly low allotment of tickets. You will almost certainly get in if you want to go to the show. Do not overbuy in the presale or general on sale. The demand is never what it seems to be.
I have listened to probably every recorded version of Butter Rum since 2018 and to my ears it’s never been sung in a caricature accent. Not even once. Just wanted to put that out there, as I’m getting the feeling that people are accepting this accent thing as truth. It’s not.
(1/3) Jeez. Things are getting a little chippy over the
#goosebracket
. The weighting/seeding, voting security, etc.
Really losing the forest for the trees. As impassioned I am to discuss/debate this stuff (and even feign disappointment) I DON’T CARE WHAT WINS. It’s just a title.
Check out this episode of Sounds of Berklee podcast with Goose. It’s somewhat of a different approach to an interview the band that digs into their time time at Berklee, experience with recording Dripfield, and more. Really good stuff.
🔥TONIGHT🔥 we rock a completely SOLD OUT
@BrooklynBowl
with the help of The Funky Dawgz Horns taking us through the decades and "Reelin' In The Years!" Please note, no tickets will be sold at the door. We can't wait to boogie with you all! 🍳🤘🍳
I once again have a working phone after cracking the screen dodging a tarper night 1 of Goose Red Rocks. I spent two whole shows with no phone and it was glorious. Gonna try it again for Goosemas, too.
Approximately 3500 people just watched their first Goose show and that’s what
@goosetheband
slapped on the table. All of a sudden those large venue aspirations don’t seem so hyperbolic. Holy shit.
On this day in 1993 my parents let my cousin pick me (age 15) up and drive off in the middle of a terrible snowstorm down route 8 to the New Haven Coliseum for my first Phish show. It wasn’t a fairy tale that’s for sure but it was the beginning of it all for me.
I’ll see y’all at the Cap tonight for Phil and Friends. Forgive me if I’m in tears all night, but those who know me know that Rick singing Jerry tunes is just about my most favorite thing on this planet.
Butter Rum is now officially on its longest gap (10 shows) since it was debuted by Goose on 4/6/18 at Nectar’s in Burlington, VT. It’s gone as many as 9 shows without being played three times.
