Holy Names Catholic High School started in 1985 in Windsor, ON.

She was canonized as a saint by Pope John Paul II in 2000. St. Josephine Bakhita’s feast day is celebrated on February 8th, and she is the patron saint of Sudan. Her story reminds us of the power of God’s grace to heal and transform even the most difficult situations.

She later joined the Canossian Daughters of Charity, dedicating her life to prayer, serving others, and sharing the joy of her faith. Despite her painful past, Josephine was known for her kindness, forgiveness, and deep love for God.

After being sold several times and mistreated, Josephine was eventually brought to Italy, where she was freed and treated with kindness. While in Italy, she discovered the Catholic faith and was baptized in 1890, taking the name Josephine.
