This past weekend, the Trump administration shattered the lives of 300,000 Venezuelans by ending #TPS for Venezuelans. These families now face an agonizing choice: live in the shadows or return to turmoil and danger. Frankie Miranda, President and CEO of Hispanic Federation speaks out on this inhumane decision.

Ahead of today’s vote on S.5, we urge @HouseGOP & @HouseDemocrats to vote #NoOnS5. While we mourn Laken Riley's death, this act exploits her legacy to endanger American communities, undermining both civil rights and local law enforcement. And the version from the Senate is only more expansive. We cannot pass legislation mandating detention for individuals merely accused of non-violent offenses, without any protections for millions of innocent long-term residents, children, and DREAMers.

🚨 URGENT: STOP SENATE BILL S.5! Happening right now: a dangerous anti-immigrant bill is making its way through the Senate. Senate Bill S.5 threatens to put innocent people in detention, taking resources from local law enforcement, and puts all American families at risk. Our immigration system can’t handle this chaos. S.5 includes zero funding to protect vulnerable people or survivors of violence and will create distrust between immigrant communities and law enforcement. @SenatorBaldwin, @SenatorBennet, @SenBlumenthal, @SenatorCantwell, @ChrisCoons, @SenCortezMasto, @SenFettermanPA, @SenRubenGallego, @SenatorHassan, @SenatorHeinrich, @SenatorHick, @SenMarkKelly, @SenAmyKlobuchar, @SenatorLujan, @SenOssoff, @SenGaryPeters, @SenJackyRosen, @SenatorShaheen, @SenatorSlotkin, @MarkWarner.

Today, the Biden administration announced an extension for Venezuelan and El Salvadoran Temporary Protected Status holders. This extension provides lifesaving protections for individuals who would otherwise face an impossible choice between returning to home countries ravaged by ongoing strife and living in the shadows in the U.S. Hispanic Federation joins the rest of the immigrant community in thanking @POTUS and @SecMayorkas for extending these vital protections, even as we reiterate our calls to grant those same protections to Ecuadorians.
