@ToddAlanHarris We will have to agree to disagree! But I did love me some GA AOE spam on the point. :D

RT @killgoon: My thoughts on the layoffs, and how we're moving forward. tl;dr: We're not giving up on SMITE 2.

Well I very well may be disconnected. I know that some of our assets in Smite were low resolution and needed to be redone. There is also the vfx system that needed to be converted. Those are not hard problems to resolve. I have a feeling that the team wanted to rebuild Smite from the ground up to make it a game that could last another decade.

@Laughing_Mantis I'm assuming the company is in real trouble that amazing people have gotten let go. I don't have any insider information about why but when I helped run the company we fought very hard never to let go of high performers.

You would be surprised how flat the salaries were at Hi-Rez. Stew didn't get paid much more than the highest paid employees. Unfortunately, if the company is running out of money because Smite is not longer making money and Smite 2 is not far enough along to make money hard decisions have to be made. I stated in previous posts that I think mistakes may have been made in the transition from Smite to Smite 2.

No we started talking about upgraded to UE4 in 2017 - 18. I don't think I would have gone to a new game vs upgrading Smite to UE5. But I do understand them wanting to start fresh, new codebase / new engine / new server backend. I think there was probably a way to "port" most things from Smite to a new version of Smite without starting a new game.
