I’m pleased to be asked by
@NHSEngland
to lead a of review gender identity services for children & young people. More details about today’s announcement including my terms of reference are set out below. [1/2]
My review into gender identity services for children and young people has just gone live with its own Twitter account. Please follow
@thecassreview
in future to keep up with the latest news and updates.
Attached are the core principles which will guide my review process. As you can see, it will take a little time to set up the structures to support this but I will post an update when more information is available.
There is some confusion on social media about the involvement of
@drmbrady
and
@HelenStokesLam
in the review I am leading on gender identity services for children & young people. To clarify, neither of them have any formal role in the review process.
I’m currently finalising how I will carry out my review and I plan to set out how I will involve young people, families, and stakeholders, all of whom are vital to its success. I will be in touch with you soon. [2/2]
Michael Brady and Helen Stokes-Lampard both welcomed the review in their respective leadership roles, but this review is independent of them and the organisations in which they work. More details of the review process to follow in due course.

Gutted! But be proud of getting this far while doing 2 taxing day jobs. Not many others could have worked those hours and progressed from ground zero to great dancer. 🕺 👏
So delighted to announce Andrew Fletcher’s
@itsandyfletch
appointment as
@Tog4ShortLives
new CEO. It’s great news for the
#CPC
sector and for all children & families we are here for.
Petition: Revoke Article 50 and remain in the EU. Andrea Leadsom sarcastically said it would need action if it gets to 17.4 million. Make her eat her words by
@taking
it to 20 million

Much that can't be said about this case but the clear duty of every paediatrician is to act in the best interests of the child.
Peter Rosenbaum asks: How do we know if interventions in developmental
#disability
are effective?
how do we think/talk about what is effective? whose goals do we address? how do we evaluate programmes?
key words: quantitative, qualitative, longitudinal

All perspectives, experiences, data and evidence - about both risks and benefits - will be important in coming to a balanced view about policy. Aim is to listen, learn and try and achieve best possible consensus on way forward.

It’s not just about the negotiations- it’s about how European scientists, doctors and academics feel. I personally have talented medical friends from EU who have left UK after many years because they no longer feel welcome. And it’s our loss not theirs.

I followed my passion - but critically the passion wasn’t static. It was an evolving series of passions that led me from general paeds to neurodisability to medical education to policy to President RCPCH.
