🌍 Black History Month 2025: Black Legacy and Leadership ✊🏾 February is Black History Month, and this year’s theme in Canada is "Black Legacy and Leadership: Celebrating Canadian History and Uplifting Future Generations". As part of our ongoing research, we’re diving into the 20th-century Black history of Mississauga—a story shaped by resilience, systemic challenges, and changing immigration policies. From restrictive immigration laws in the early 1900s to the transformative impact of the West Indian Domestic Scheme and the 1967 Points System, the Black community in Mississauga has grown and flourished despite historical barriers. But how did we get here? 🔍 Read Part 1 of our latest Way Back Wednesday article as we uncover this lesser-known history: 📖 Learn more about Black History Month programs: 🔗 [Mississauga Black History Month]( 🔗 [Government of Canada]( 🔗 [Ontario Black History Society]( Stay tuned for Part 2 as we continue this important conversation. #BlackHistoryMonth #MississaugaHistory #BHM2025 #WayBackWednesday

🌤️ Groundhog Day 2025: Winter or Early Spring? ❄️🌷 Yesterday was Feb 2nd, also known as Groundhog Day, and Canada’s top furry forecasters are split!🔮 ❄️ Six more weeks of winter, according to: Shubenacadie Sam (NS), Fred La Marmotte Jr. (QC), Van Island Violet (BC), Okanagan Okie (BC), and Punxsutawney Phil (PA). 🌷 Early spring, predicted by: Wiarton Willie (ON), Oil Spring’s Heaven’s Wildlife Harvey (ON), Manitoba Merv (MB), Balzac Billy (AB), and Two River Tunnel (NS). That’s a 5-5 tie! But Lucy the Lobster 🦞 from Nova Scotia has weighed in—six more weeks of winter it is! Groundhog Day has its roots in European folklore and was brought to North America by German settlers in the 1800s. While Canada almost opted for a bear as our seasonal predictor, the groundhog won the battle for meteorological fame! 🇨🇦 Read more about the history of Groundhog Day and its Canadian connection here: Do you trust the groundhogs, or are you hoping for an early spring? Let us know in the comments! 👇

Today, on International Holocaust Remembrance Day, we honour the memory of the six million Jewish men, women, and children who were murdered during the Holocaust, as well as the millions of others who suffered and perished, including Romani people, people with disabilities, 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals, political prisoners, and other marginalized groups. We remember their lives, their stories, and their resilience, and we reaffirm our commitment to learning from the past to create a future free from hatred and discrimination. Let this day remind us of the importance of standing against prejudice in all its forms and of fostering a world rooted in compassion, justice, and peace. #WeRemember #HolocaustRemembranceDay
