As requested! Quick view of the mechanism for the Owlbear Cub blink! White tubes are PTFE from our printers to run pull cables. Bolts served to mount the return springs & stop the lids hyperextending! M4 threaded through the head and eyes held it together

It's Hench's birthday so we won't be around too much today, but here's a quick look at the underlying head mechs for our little owlbear cub. A simple cable controlled spring loaded top/bottom eyelid mech. (1/2)

Owlbear cub upgrades! ☺️
Scrap has been tweaking a few things and we now have a bunch of extra movement - more fluid blinking, a cute little ear waggle and eye movement! Plus all the nylon cables have been replaced with steel, so it's all a lot more durable.

Here's a good before/after shot of clipping and with a touch of airbrushing! Hard to see here, but Hench also cut a feather pattern into the back fur, and gave the cub an airbrush with Jacquard Dye-Na-Flow inks to give an appropriately grubby feel. (9/10)

Here they are in the final owlbear skull - as you can see, the rest of the build is a bit rough because it came together so quickly, but the eyes? We're really proud of those!

The whole thing came together in 18 days, so it's all a bit rough and we definitely did not expect the very warm reception we received! But Hench stayed up for 36 hours finishing our scrungly little friend before the 12 hour drive to PAX, so the love has made it all worthwhile!

A test fit for size. All good!
It should be mentioned that this phase of the build was dubbed "the tardigrade".
From here, the head complete with mechs was adde, as were paws. The paws were high density EVA foam to add weight and gravity to the limbs. (5/10)

Here's our sweet little cub looking slightly less horrifying, ready for a lovely shave in the hotel bathtub. We'd like to thank the Pan Pacific for not charging us a dog fee, although we actually did a pretty great job keeping the fur contained! Hench used hair clippers. (8/10)

Look, a warning: the images from here on get a touch on the body horror side. We're sorry.
We bought open cell foam that was on sale because it was stained (and we are but poor artists). Using spray contact adhesive, Hench set about cutting and gluing the pieces together. (4/10)

The model was broken apart to export cleanly, and from there, Hench cleaned up the files for practical use using the papercraft software Pepakura Designer (still a favorite of ours). We scaled it down by 20% from the in-game scale for practicality. (3/10)

He embedded the eye bases in a water clear epoxy cast into a spherical ice cube mold. This was done in two steps - with an initial flow coat to ensure the crevices would be bubble-free, followed by a final pour that was pressure cast. (5/6)

Speaking of 3 day builds, here's the only image Hench captured of adding the fur. A right proper Martin Scorsese, she is.
She stayed up all night adding the fur since we had to head to Melbourne in the morning. We strongly discourage crunch, but this was a passion project. (7/10)

to construct a life-size version of the Sentinel Hammer.
Incorporating 3D printing, an aluminium handle & lighting, the prop measures 1.4 metres high/0.63 metres wide! 🤯
