Living off grid in lovely rural NM with three rescue pups. I write, design, organize events & things, and take a lot of photos. Peace, love, and gratitude.
A Native American woman I know said that she and her friends have jokingly named this guy “Dances with Karens” and I find that pretty darn funny. 😆 (No offense to the decent Karens in the world, of course.)
I just called my 94yo neighbor to wish her happy birthday.
“Oh, is it today? What day of the week is it?”
Depressingly, she has no plans for today. 😔 So… I’m going to spend my night drinking wine with a 94 year old lady on her birthday and we will laugh like fools. 💕
My 95 year old neighbor lost her dog today and it’s the dog that I love like my own because she spends so much time here. So, I dropped everything to look for her, called the shelter + AC, alerted the neighbors, posted on NextDoor, etc. I drove around looking everywhere. 🧵 1/5
I find this incredibly disrespectful. Mackinac Island is a special place because there are no cars and this guy had to go ruin that. I can’t wait for this admin to leave office and quit ruining everything.
My 94yo neighbor and I had a very fun birthday celebration tonight. I heard many fascinating stories about her life and even recorded a few. I told her people on Twitter were wishing her happy birthday. She said, “On what?!” 😂 I didn’t try to explain. Thanks all! 💕
I’ve spoken to the woman’s family and friends. I’ve called Animal Control and Adult Protective Services. It does no good. That’s why I’m angry right now. The dog could have died today. The owner could kill someone driving. It’s truly not a good situation at all. 🥺 🧵5/5
I’m a bit overwhelmed by the response to this and can’t possibly respond to all of the replies so I’ll just say thank you for making me smile today and leave it at that. ☺️
I gave the dog water, food, and love. She seems ok for now. But she’s not safe, nor is her owner. In New Mexico, animals are considered property and if I “rescue” the dog, I could get a felony larceny charge. I’ve researched it. Another stupid animal control ordinance. 🧵 4/5
The dog had been stuck in this building for nearly FIVE HOURS by this time, and my elderly neighbor acted shocked that she was in there. Shocked because she has dementia and shouldn’t be living alone. 🧵 3/5
I finally thought to check my neighbor’s truck because she likes to give the dog rides even though she shouldn’t even be driving. (Thanks, NM MVD for your insane laws.) Thank goodness the dog wasn’t there!
I finally found her in a very hot out building w/out windows. 🧵 2/5
The response here is overwhelming and I don’t deserve this many kudos. Has our society become so jaded that kindness is the exception and not the norm? I hope to live in a world where everyone is always kind to one another; where it’s expected, not surprising. Let’s work on that.
Hey all, I’ve turned off the comments. Mostly because there are fires burning throughout New Mexico right now and I want to follow those.
I’ve also been advised to get an AirTag by far too many of you. 😁 My neighbors and I will keep doing what we can for the neighbor+dog. 💕
It’s hard to believe but this is the same view, two months apart. We went from barren, crispy land with smoke clouds to weeds on steroids.

Possibly. She normally comes straight here when she gets out. That would at least help me to know when she’s going for rides or gets locked in an out building though. Thank you.
Do men find this sexy? If so, I’m doing it all wrong. I don’t wear much makeup, my hair color and body parts are real, and I despise uncomfortable shoes and clothes. Also, if I had to guess, I bet my IQ is higher than these four combined.
Just spoke to a second person who found out they had Covid and then went to the grocery store to stock up so they could quarantine. That’s not how this is supposed to work. Go home, call someone to bring you groceries. 🙄
What’s up with all of the bra ads lately?? I cannot block them fast enough — they’re every 10th tweet. And seriously, who would cut a bra with a scissors? Guys, do you see these too?
New Mexico is such a beautiful state and I’m so grateful to live here.
I’m not quite home yet (stopped for the night to flush all of my tanks) but I’m close. Best part? This campground serves breakfast with red and green chile. I plan to thoroughly douse my food with it. 🌶️
My nephew just sent me a happy new year card with his new baby on it. At the bottom (cut off for privacy), it says, “I hope it’s lit.” 😁 Isn’t he adorable? 🥰
Today marks the 10th anniversary of my ex-husband and dear friend Adiya’s suicide.
Feathers are his way of communicating with me. I haven’t found a blue feather since the week he died but this morning, I did. Nothing is ever random.
I miss you, my sweet friend. 💔
My upcoming root canal will cost $2,500 to be paid that day. What do people do who don’t have the money to pay? And why is dental not covered by health insurance? Last I checked, my teeth are part of my body. Dental insurance is a waste of money too — doesn’t cover much at all.
In one of Maggie’s previous homes, she killed a chicken and a kitten. Since being here, she’s picked a few fights with other dogs, dug up my yard, and barks a lot. Kristi Noem would have killed her by now, but I’m giving her love and more training because I’m not an asshole. 🙄🐾
My 93yo neighbor has called three times today to see if her dog could come over to play “because she’s bored.” I was on Zoom calls all three times. Finished my last call and the dog was sitting on my porch waiting for me. 😁 How can I say no to this face?
There was a piece of cheese on my plate when I went to the bathroom and now there is not.
Which one is guilty? I have my suspicions but I’ll take the majority vote opinion on this. The big one or the little one?
Yes! I’m thrilled to be living in a state that voted blue across the board. There’s a bunch of good people here in NM who understand politics, care deeply about others, and vote thoughtfully. I’ve found my people! (Lovely image,
@MJdowntheshore
! Thank you for all you do!)
I spent a few days exploring Las Cruces, Mesilla, Caballo Lake, Truth or Consequences, and Elephant Butte Lake recently and wanted to share a thread of my photos. I’ve never been south of Albuquerque so I enjoyed seeing part of the southern half of our beautiful New Mexico. 1/

Sadly, unless it’s ordered, people won’t comply. I know too many people in Michigan who don’t even want the vaccine because they don’t believe Covid is dangerous.
My plans for the next three days: sleep in, eat junk food, read, watch movies, build fires, drink wine, and then repeat. The Grinch in me needs a laziness break. Cheers and happy holidays to you all.
Made it to Michigan around 2am. Three days of driving across the country seeing how the other states live has made me appreciate Blue New Mexico even more. I also realized I don’t like bitter cold or snow any longer. Screw that. Please send some sunshine ASAP. Thanks.
Ok, New Mexicans, what’s the secret to removing all of the huge tumbleweed villages on my property? Do I need a chainsaw? A wood chopper? Flamethrower? Help?
My 95yo neighbor doesn’t have AC and I don’t think she even has a fan. She doesn’t care but I worry about her and her dog. I’m going over there shortly to give her a fan but I can’t force her to use it. I now understand why they say to check on the elderly in the heat. 😔
I have no idea why black dogs are often overlooked for adoptions. These three rescue mutts are all adorable and so much fun. I’ll admit I’m a bit biased but look at those faces — how could I not be? 🐾

I booked my trip from Michigan back to New Mexico this morning. It’s going to take 9 days because I have 3 dogs and want to be kind to them and myself. I’m only driving 200-300 miles per day and stopping for a few nights every couple of days to rest.
I’m ready to be home. 🌶️
@TerilynnS
Wow! That’s an incredible shot! I’ve never caught any on camera but I do have a few coyote photos. I love having both around here but I also respect them enough to steer clear.
I swear my skin has aged 10 years in the two years since I moved from Michigan to New Mexico. I put on lotion and an hour later, my body screams for more.
Yesterday we went to Echo Amphitheater north of Abiquiu and heard drumming in the parking lot so we followed it all the way to the cave. Three people were back there having a jam session and it sounded so amazing with the sound bouncing off the walls.
Here’s another photo of the 5-month-old Aussie/Border Collie pup I posted about the other day. She really needs a good home, preferably with another dog or kids to play with. She’s a very active little girl. Please let me know if you’re interested! 🐾

I went to urgent care this morning after being up all night again coughing and wheezing. I have Flu A, but not Covid or strep, and they said about 80% of people coming in lately have one of the three. So, mask up unless you want to be sick. 😷 As for me, I’m going to take a nap.
I cannot even begin to tell you how much I needed this. This trip to Michigan has not been an easy one for many reasons and for 6 weeks, I’ve been driving around with kayaks on the roof, waiting for tonight, and it was 💯 times worth it. There wasn’t anyone on the lake! 🌊
Perfect night for a fire. I found a man with a pickup full of wood, negotiated a decent price using bad Spanish, and he delivered and stacked it. I’m feeling pretty grateful for that half cord of wood right now.
Photos from yesterday’s road trip through Tesuque, Nambé, Cundiyo, Rio Chiquito, and Chimayo. It started out foggy and then that trusty ol’ New Mexico sun came out to save the day.

I don’t agree with everything Biden and his admin does but I wake up every day grateful that he is in the White House right now. His calm, rational, and unifying approach to leadership is exactly what we need right now. Imagine if we still had the other guy.

😬
I'm not going to win any points for saying this but the Biden Admin international team has been doing exceptional work from the outset. They have restored international standing, strengthened alliances, rejoined multilateral institutions, elevated US diplomacy.
I walked around my property and all in all, nothing looks permanently damaged. I have a giant lake in my front yard though and smaller puddles everywhere else. The hail didn’t appear to damage the trailer or my skylights so that’s a relief. The rivers moved rocks though!

I had Maggie’s DNA checked and received the results today. I’ve always been told she was part Lab and part Border Collie. (Look at her paws!) Well, she’s not Border Collie at all — rather 50% Lab, 47% Great Pyrenees, and 3% Wolf. 😳 No wonder she eats like a horse!
I drove from Little Rock to Oklahoma City today. It took 8.5 hours to drive 315 miles. 3 dogs + only going 60mph = not getting anywhere fast. The campground is decent but this is the RV across from me. 🙄 Have I mentioned how much I’m ready to be back in a blue state?

New dog Ellie weighs all of 20 pounds but thinks she can take on Maggie and Marley who each weigh 70 pounds. She growled at them and they laughed at her little snack-sized self. 😁
