County commissioners beginning their meeting at 2. On the agenda is CARES act funding for @WCPSS. The more health safety assistants we can hire for state required temp checks, the more teachers we can protect from exposure, quarantine, and illness.

WCPSS is requesting about $25M in CARES Act relief from the county for PPE and staffing needed for health screenings to help reopen schools. Commissioners are debating between about $13M for just supplies, no additional staff, or doing more. A vote is expected 8/17.

We know with an increase in medical&social emotional needs our students have this year we need more school counselors social workers&nurses supporting our students their families&school staff. Join us this week advocating for CARES Act funds to be used to hire more support staff.

I expect there will be a board meeting called for next week. I also expect that - if this is recommended - that Virtual Academy applications would be reopened. But I do not have any other details and don’t even know if staff has completed any any to share at this time. (2/2).
