Right, I get that genetics play a role, but here’s what I’m trying to understand: When I run 8:30 pace, my HR is much lower than his—but he’s way faster than me overall. Does that suggest I have a lower max HR, meaning my 130 bpm is a higher % of my max than his? Or is there something else going on?

I’ve been using Maurten gels—both the 100s and 160s. I do 2x100s + 1x160 per hour to hit 90g of carbs. Haven’t used a handheld in training yet this cycle, but in my two races last year, I started with one that had Maurten 320 drink mix. I’ve tested other brands, but Maurten has worked best for me.

Interesting! What’s your reasoning for taking in fewer carbs during training long runs? I’ve historically done the same—usually don’t need as many gels since the intensity isn’t the same as race day. But this cycle, I’m trying to simulate race day as much as possible, so I’ve been doing 90g per hour even on easy long runs. Might even try to push up to 120g. Curious to hear your approach!

@bostonmarathon in 82 days. But in a shocking turn of events, I have once again committed to another marathon @runSRA_CIM

@GrandmasMara sold out on November 6—for a race on June 21. That’s about 7 months before race day! Are marathons trying to be concerts now? How early do I need to sign up for @runSRA_CIM (December 7) before it’s gone?

@UltraRunner26 What do we think is the typical pace difference between a half marathon and a full marathon? Around 20 seconds per mile?

@tracksmith Bus Run #1. The plan was 14 miles back to Boston from ~the halfway point, with a couple extra to round it out. Felt strong through the Newton Hills, but I rolled my ankle badly in Brookline and had to stop. Ubered back to the Trackhouse, feeling heartbroken. 12 weeks out from the @bostonmarathon, and I can’t help but feel gutted. Hoping this is just a minor setback—I’ve never sprained my ankle since I started running (if that’s all it is)🙏
