A look inside underground waste-storage Tank AP-106, where radioactive and chemical waste treated through the TSCR System enters. The system reached a milestone, treating 800k+ gallons of waste that will eventually go to the Vit Plant to be immobilized in glass for safe disposal.

The footprint of the Plutonium Uranium Extraction Plant continues to shrink. Crews with @CPCCHanford recently began demolishing the 211-A Chemical Makeup Tank Farm and pumphouse, which stored a variety of chemicals used during the plant’s plutonium processing era.

Coordinating with other DOE sites, @WRPSTOC saved ~ $600k on repurposed whole body contamination monitors. The monitors were no longer needed at the Nevada Test Site, so WRPS coordinated with HMIS to ship the monitors to Hanford. They will be tested and calibrated before used.

Emergency preparedness is a key part of Hanford cleanup operations. Several organizations took part in last month’s limited exercise which involved a simulated accident and fire at the 222-S Lab. The alternate Emergency Operations Center was activated for this exercise.
