Exxon has been clear that certain policies will be required for its energy transition businesses to succeed, and its proposed Baytown hydrogen project is no different. @exxonmobil #45V

"We made it through this one okay, but we have a lot of summer left to go." The Port of Houston has reopened, with the port and the energy industry mostly withstanding the worst of Hurricane Beryl, but it's still early in hurricane season.

Officially through my first real hurricane, and of course I was working the whole time! Here's some early assessments of the energy industry's responses to Hurricane Beryl:

I've got another international company building out its energy transition business in Houston. Unsurprisingly, I think this coverage might be a bit of a trend! @thyssenkruppnca is looking to the Gulf Coast to increase its electrolyzer business:

With all the news that came out Tuesday, this one may have flown under the radar. @aramco is making more moves in the U.S. LNG industry by considering an equity deal with Port Arthur LNG. @SempraInfra

Dearest gentle reader, Just kidding. But I definitely felt a bit like a gossip columnist when I got this email. The layers of context here run deep!

A few months ago I was able to speak with several members of Waukesha-Pearce Industries, leading me to (accidentally) write this cover story on a historic Houston family business. Congrats on 100 years!

With a potentially record hurricane season closing in quickly, check out how the energy industry is preparing for storms, and what they've learned from previous events. Thanks to @Phillips66Co and @Port_Houston for giving us some insight.

I heard lots of great things at the Offshore Technology Conference this year, one of which being that draft regulation for offshore CCS in the U.S. could be published later this year! Here's what I learned: #OTC2024

Midstream giant @Kinder_Morgan announced during its earnings call it had leased pore space for a carbon sequestration project at the TGS Cedar Port industrial park. Both parties gave me some more info on the project, and why they chose Houston.

My favorite panel from CERAWeek: The CEOs of @exxonmobil, @Chevron, @WeAreOxy, @bp_plc, @TotalEnergies, @Equinor, @eni, and @petrobras sat down to talk about how methane emissions are now considered a safety issue, and are being treated as such.

FYI if you want a coffee with a picture of your face on it at @CERAWeek, get yourself an invite to the @exxonmobil House! It turned out way better than I thought it would!

By selling off its assets in Alaska, BP lost access to Indigenous suppliers in the region, forcing the company to reevaluate its diversity ambitions. BP is now targeting $650 million in spending on diverse suppliers by 2025, rather than $1 billion.

Houston-based @talosenergyllc has sold its entire low carbon solutions business to @TotalEnergies for about $148 million, but the Harvest Bend and Coastal Bend carbon sequestration projects could end up on the market.

It’s official: Public companies will be required to report their scope 1 and 2 emissions to the SEC, if material. This applies to essentially every energy company.

Anti-trust investigations are not the only thing threatening Chevron's acquisition of Hess. Exxon is making a play for Hess's Guyana assets, which could jeopardize the merger.
