If you watched I’M NOT THERE and INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS and thought, “Well, those films elegantly and imaginatively evoked the soul of Bob Dylan but all I’m after is the facts,” then A COMPLETE UNKNOWN is the film for you. Handsome and workmanlike, so fully at odds with its subject.

A critical factor to note about Olivia Colman’s upset victory: it was not heavily campaign-aided. Filming The Crown in the UK severely limited her visibility and availability for interviews and gladhanding the last couple of months. She won it on performance.
