It is believed that Vishwamitra Rishi founded the temple of Goddess Maha Kali Mata on Pavagadh hill in very ancient time. About 1300 AD descendants of Pruthviraj Chauhan settled in Champaner-Pavagadh. One of their ancestors was Khichi Hamir. So they are known as Khichi Rajputs.
