My mentor says, Aquaponics is basically the Nitrification process, you get that right and you're well on your way to being a good grower.

So I intercropped spring onion with mint last month and these are the results. No fungus gnats or white flies on the mint and it grew so beautifully shaded by the onions. There's also minimal thrip damage around close by spring onions. 🙂
Today I'm just so grateful for farming. The profession opens up a lot of opportunities for young people and it instills so much spirituality and maturity in a person. I'm about to flip the page to my next chapter very soon. 🙏
Agriculture is not a get rich quick scheme. Especially when you're are continuously looking at growing your business. Profit turns into Investments. 🌱💚
I just had such a fulfilling conversation with a fellow black woman in
#aquaponics
. I'm so motivated and inspired. It's very challenging being in this industry because you can feel unheard and even alone.

The money will come, the focus of smart farming in South Africa should be how to replicate a PROVEN model sustainably. We need to stop mimicking internet rhetoric & selling dreams on
#aquaponics
but focus on building the farming aspect of it. How much are we making? Is it viable?
Farmers need to collaborate and work together. Together we are stronger and the pie is big enough for everyone, so you dont need to hoard information and opportunities. Let's work with the vision of inclusivity and growth.
In farming, you gotta understand systems, your db's, electrical wiring, water pumps, valves, plumbing and most importantly, system design. No pretty business here, I am constantly tired... its sweat and a lot of work.
Have you guys ever listened to farmers from the rest of Southern Africa, especially Zimbabwe, talk about the science in agriculture? Walking and breathing textbooks!
300 Euros per square meter for a production of automation and high tech. I visited a hydroponic farm thats 5ha making 9 million euros per annum. So that's a R24 000 000 investment to run your operation repaid in 3 years.
We have some fresh Tilapia for sale if you are in the Magalies and Hartbeespoort area. On farm pickup at R60/kg. While stocks last.
DM me for purchase. 🐟🐟🐟🐟
Hey guys, please start your farming business from the bottom up. Growth is gradual and continuous and worth the wait once you understand what it is that you are doing.

Farmers who are interested in online learning, done at your own time and pace... I'll post a thread on how to attain some knowledge at universities of i.e Harvard, Texas, Adelaide etc. These courses are less than R3k and will broaden your business and agriculture knowledge. 💚🌱
Good morning farmers🌻❤
Smart systems/farming has demonstrated to be a self-sustainable, cost-effective, and eco-friendly urban farming that can be commercial. Look into the future.

I don't know if we're desensitized or prefer sensationalism but, Thabo Bester is a calculated murderer and serial rapist that deserves jail time. We need to rally for justice instead of a Netflix special.
Why don't young farmers venture into commodity crops: maize, sorghum, sunflower, groundnut etc? Less inputs for your operation and high returns. Then there's also fruit: stone fruit, orchards. We are blessed with the best climate. Many a time, farmers rush to growing vegetables.
I just met up with
@cmashx
all the way from Zimbabwe 🇿🇼 for coffee and we spoke about the future of agriculture. The future is bright for us young

First thing in the morning, I ensured the fish were well fed, felt the love, are not stressed but filled with happiness. Guess that's why its called animal husbandry.

Farmers are really moving to their farms, building their small shacks, taking financial risks, earning seasonally or not at all, taking care of animals, giving back to the soil, living a simple life and they're businesses are still growing strong. Amazing🌍
Don't forget to cook the spinach stems too. They’re packed with vitamin A, B6, C, Calcium, Iron and Magnesium.
PS: don’t forget to scrub them well. Soaking them helps to get all the soil and other residues off the stems.
I won the Mpumalanga Green Cluster Pitching competition for
#aquaponics
in my hometown- Witbank, sponsored by Anglo American and my mom was there to cheer me on 😭💓🇿🇦🎊
Farming stresses me out and causes me so much anxiety at times, but one thing is for sure, I'm much happier, healthier and overall grateful for the life I chose.
You can literally grow most things in aquaponics.
Fun fact, if it's red tilapia, smaller body tilapia - it's the mossambicus. The blue gray bigger body is the niloticus. Advantage of choosing the red one is that it's cold tolerant
