Roberto Clemente Jr. and Roberto Clemente III take the microphone to share some words here as the Pittsburgh bridge named in honor of their father/grandfather is reopened to the public:
New Penguins winger Kevin Hayes shared how he’s doing in the aftermath of Johnny & Matthew Gaudreau’s tragic deaths.
Hayes enters camp with the Penguins as he mourns the passings of two cherished friends:
Pitt QB Phil Jurkovec just launched his fundraising initiative, “5 for Kids” here at UPMC Children’s Hospital. He aims to raise $100K, all of which will benefit the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.
Sidney Crosby says he’s considering playing in the world championships.
“Something I’ll think about over the next couple of days and give them an answer after that.”
Ground level WiFi at Folsom Field will be the death of me, tried to post this yesterday afternoon, but here’s Mel Tucker sticking around to embrace/congratulate players after the big win.
Been a long time coming for the
#CUBuffs
, glad Tucker got this moment:
Tad Boyle’s incoming Class of 2021:
4-star center Lawson Lovering
4-star forward Quincy Allen
4-star point guard K.J. Simpson
3-star guard Julian Hammond III
3-star guard Javon Ruffin
Grad transfer point guard Mason Faulkner
Impressive.

Steven Montez's dominance over Nebraska is a criminally underrated part of his legacy at CU. He was the first Colorado QB to beat NU in back-to-back seasons since Darian Hagan in 1989-90.
In two thrilling wins against the Huskers, Montez averaged 363 YPG with 5 TDs and 1 INT.
Can’t even begin to describe the recruiting reverberations created in landing such a high-profile, five-star transfer like Antonio Alfano.
This one was all Mel Tucker. Incredible get for the
#CUBuffs
.
Absolute huge deal to see McKinley Wright IV used in a Selection Sunday teaser tweet by the NCAA March Madness Twitter, an account with 1.4 million followers.
Indicative of eyes being on Wright IV and Colorado on a national scale.
Evan Battey tells Mark Johnson he's going to call McKinley Wright IV and D'Shawn Schwartz for some friendly bragging about finally getting a W over the Ducks at Matthew Knight Arena.
"I got one. You didn't, I did!"
McKinley Wright IV congratulates sophomore point guard Jaylyn Sherrod after the Buffaloes’ huge win over No. 1 Stanford this afternoon.
Pretty cool that Wright IV showed up to support

Carson Lee: “Trust me — I’m a Buffalo. That’s not changing.”
A solid number of CU’s 2020 signees affirmed their commitments and expressed support for interim head coach Darrin Chiaverini and Colorado in general.

We in the media got our first chance to talk to freshman tailback Ashaad Clayton tonight.
He opened up about some struggles he faced transitioning from New Orleans to Boulder last year and in short, seems like a thoughtful, humble and honest young man.
Brian Michalowski never stopped recruiting throughout the coaching transition and in recent weeks. His retention by Karl Dorrell is well earned.
Hearing that three-star 2021 DE Brandon Bucker (Chandler, AZ) is eyeing a visit to Boulder here in the near future.

Mel Tucker today on the (likely) possibility of facing No. 6 Utah in the snow this Saturday —
“Snow’s good. That’s football weather to me. I was literally born in the snow on Jan. 4 in Cleveland, Ohio. I love the snow.”
No one inquired if he’ll wear shorts...
#CUBuffs
With today’s addition of four-star CB Christian Gonzalez into the Class of 2020, it gives the
#CUBuffs
the most four-star players to commit since the 2009 class.
Tad Boyle: “Any fan that follows Colorado basketball knows how special Evan Battey is to us and our program and just what a special human being he is.”
#CUBuffs
50,000+ fans showed up to support the last remaining winless team in the FBS. Packed the house and got Folsom Field rockin. Huge props to
#BuffNation
. And especially to Mike Sanford for reclaiming some much-needed dignity around Colorado football. So happy for the Buffs!
Mel Tucker last night speaking at an event in California:
“In the coaching profession, you have stepping stone jobs, and then you have destination jobs. I see CU as a destination opportunity...I waited 22 years for that right opportunity for a head coaching job.”

This is a really special night. The CUEC jumbotron is playing messages from McKinley Wright IV, D'Shawn Schwartz and Tyler Bey to send off Evan Battey in his final home game.
Tad Boyle to CUBuffs after last night's loss at No. 5 UCLA, looking ahead to Saturday's game vs. No. 13 Tennessee:
"We need our fans to show up, be loud and proud. If we're not selling out the CU Events Center for a team like Tennessee, I don't know why I'm scheduling them."
Colorado fans will be pleased to hear that Ralphie V, nicknamed 'Blackout' by her Handlers, has been enjoying retirement at her ranch as she approaches her 15th birthday.
Ralphie V led the
#CUBuffs
onto the gridiron 76 times in her 12-year career.
Wow. What a game. Colorado shocks the red hot Oregon Ducks, 82-78, winning in Eugene for the first time in nine years.
Great win for the Buffaloes and their young core.
Mel Tucker said today that Kordel Stewart (
@KSlash10
) will be in the house at Folsom Field this Saturday as Colorado hosts Washington.
The
#CUBuffs
plan to honor him, as 2019 is the 25th anniversary season of the Miracle at Michigan.
There are literally thousands of CU message board subscribers alone who have followed each and every recruit with interest for years if not decades-plus. This patronizing “you’re new here” take by the “Colorado Buffs recruiting expert” is embarrassingly off-base.

“Anytime you’ve got a chance to play a quality program with a coach that’s upstanding and runs as clean and good a program as there is in the country, you want to be involved with them.”
Here’s the full interview Ashaad Clayton gave the Colorado media tonight in his debut appearance in talking with reporters at CU.
Definitely recommend watching it,
#CUBuffs
fans. Gives you a good snippet of Clayton’s demeanor and personality.
Karl Dorrell said tonight that this Colorado jacket he sported at Monday’s practice was the object of envy among his assistants and players alike.
I would concur that it is slick indeed.
A $100 bet on Colorado not only covering the 28-point spread but defeating No. 6 Utah on the road tonight pays out $1600.
No, I did not bend the ethics of objective journalism by betting on the Buffs. Yes, I think they’re pulling off the upset.

Brenden Rice admitted it was “extremely hard” to separate himself from the legacy of his dad, NFL HOFer Jerry Rice.
However, the younger Rice is committed to forging his own individual legacy.
“Although I do have the last name Rice, I have my first name Brenden.”

If Jabari Walker returns to Colorado for the 2022-23 season, the
#CUBuffs
are easy NCAA Tournament and top-of-the-Pac contenders. Even without Walker returning, I think the current group of players could still be dangerous. Encouraging and efficient day for Tad Boyle & Co.
New Colorado WRs coach Phil McGeoghan has already taken a few big swings on the recruiting trail with offers to 2023 Rivals100 wideouts:
Carnell Tate (4-star prospect, No. 14 in the nation out of IMG Academy)
Omarion Miller (4-star LSU commit, No. 76 prospect in the nation)
Mel Tucker complimented “Buff Nation” today for the continued solid attendance in Boulder, saying:
“Everyone that sees us in action at Folsom comes away with a strong understanding that the Buffs are serious about football and that this is a football town.”
#CUBuffs
Mark Perry on Mel Tucker:
“He’ll tell me what I’m doing bad, what I’m doing good, and even when he tells me I’m doing good, he’ll say ‘alright, wipe that smile off your face — you still got work to do.’ I love that about him...he keeps it really honest with us.”

Brenden Rice, who had six kick returns for 162 yards today, opts to distribute praise to the 10 other players on the field with him.
"Big shoutout to my kick return team, because they were blocking their asses off for me today. I couldn't ask for anything better from them."
Evan Battey is going to make the entire building cry tonight. Few CU student-athletes have been as loved by campus and the city of Boulder as Evan Battey.
Colorado has defeated No. 2 Arizona, 79-63, in one of the greatest victories in CU men’s hoops program history. Couldn’t have been a more magical ending to Senior Night. It’s a party in Boulder.
Jeriah was a huge part of the success Colorado was able to have this year and he was a terrific mentor and example-setter for the younger players on the team, who learned a lot from him. Wish him well in whatever comes next in life, on and off the hardwood! Great player/man.
@GuerrieroCU
Thank you for this tweet because people can be so cruel! Jeriah was beyond disappointed!! He was truly affected by this slump he encountered. As a parent I appreciate the kindness in this tweet!
Colorado comes in at No. 24 in the latest AP Top 25 Poll. USC, UCLA and Oregon received votes but the
#CUBuffs
are the Pac-12’s lone representative in the nation’s top 25 teams.
Darian Hagan lands a two-time Georgia state champion tailback for the Buffaloes, edging Arizona State, Florida State, Michigan State, USC and others in the process. The
#CUBuffs
are off to a good start in 2022.
Tad Boyle: “I know our coaches feel like our league is a little underrated. I shouldn’t say a little — a lot underrated — and disrespected, so to speak. The only way to combat that is to come to a tournament like this, win games and continue to win games.
#BackThePac
CU has to be feeling pretty good about its tailbacks room, with two high school stars (Hankerson/Venn) now joining the team plus Sam Houston State transfer Ramon Jefferson.
Add them to Alex Fontenot, Deion Smith and Jayle Stacks — that's a solid group with versatility and depth.
McKinley Wright IV said CU freshman guard KJ Simpson had sent him film from the recent exhibition game against Colorado Mines.
Wright IV says he’s in the process of checking it out and providing feedback.
Tad Boyle brought up D’Shawn Schwartz’s game-winner vs. Dayton in 2019 in his postgame presser and tonight, the Colorado Kid came through in the clutch again with his game-winning tip-in basket.
Schwartz thrives in the clutch.
Max Wray, when he arrives in Boulder, should come in and immediately enter the conversation for prospective offensive line starters this fall. His acquisition adds some length and depth to that room. Great addition.
#CUBuffs
It truly is a brutal time to be a Colorado fan right now, with arguably the team’s top talents on both sides of the ball (CB Christian Gonzalez and WR Brenden Rice) having entered the transfer portal. Far from a good look for the program.
Just got off the phone with new Colorado grad transfer commit Mason Faulkner.
I think fans are going to like him. From a personality standpoint, he’ll fit right in at CU.
Faulker also told me that the first Colorado person he ever heard from was McKinley Wright IV.
Colorado heads into the Pac-12 Tournament at No. 75 in the NET. Reverse a few inexplicably bad losses to ASU, UW and Wazzu and I think CU is easily an NCAA Tournament team.
#CUBuffs
fans, you are not going to want to skip over this one. Via our friend

@AZHSFB
, a very candid interview with new WR commit Brenden Rice.
“I can go to ASU and be a part of a class, or I can go to Colorado and make my own class.”
Wow. What a win for Colorado, which gets a bye week now to rest up and prepare for Arizona two weekend from now. 34-31 is the final score from Tempe. Decent Buffs fan section down here too!
New column: Mel Tucker in his first year at Colorado being able to bring an incredibly high-profile player like Antonio Alfano into the fold speaks volumes about his reputation and abilities as a recruiter.
Official attendance tonight at the CU Events Center was 11,079. Sellout crowd got to witness one of the best wins in Colorado program history.
Tonight matched the highest-ranked opponent (No. 2 Oklahoma State, 1992) that CU has ever beaten, home or away.
Wanted to relay some personal news: Thursday was my final day at

@Rivals
. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed covering Colorado these past several years but alas, my days on the

beat are over. I’m thrilled to share my upcoming move and will do so soon!
Steelers S Minkah Fitzpatrick, who Mel Tucker coached at Alabama in 2015, had this to say about him:
“Coach Tucker is a great coach. He was one of the first coaches I played for (in college). He’s energetic, passionate about the game and always challenges players.”
#CUBuffs
The first-ever commit Karl Dorrell landed at CU was St. Thomas Aquinas DL Allan Baugh for the ‘21 class. Colorado then landed Raiders RB Anthony Hankerson for the ‘22 class; now, for ‘23, CU gets Raiders WR Isaiah Hardge. Pipeline between Boulder and Ft. Lauderdale developing.
Per Karl Dorrell, newly-returned senior defensive lineman Mustafa Johnson received his clearance to begin practicing with the Buffaloes today.

Cherry Creek’s Chase Penry was on the receiving end of a pretty solid recruiting rankings boost recently.
He’s now listed as the No. 7 prospect within his class for the state of Colorado and is right on the border of being a four-star.
Local (Denver Prep Academy) blue chipper Assane Diop, a 6-foot-10 Class of 2023 forward, was in the house tonight in Boulder to watch the
#CUBuffs
take down Stanford.
He and his DPA teammate Baye Fall, a 5-star center, are major 2023 targets that Colorado is hoping to keep home.

Tad Boyle's full remarks on Evan Battey:
"He means everything to me because he’s such a special, unique human being — forget basketball player."
#CUBuffs
There will be a lot of dignity in defeat for Colorado when this one's over. The youthful Buffaloes went punch for punch with the No. 2 team in the nation on a big stage. This game was far closer/competitive than the final score will read.
Darrin Chiaverini likely will be named interim head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes this afternoon.
I’d also argue that it’d be prudent to name him head coach outright. Recruits well, he has the respect of all players and is genuinely committed to building the program at CU.
More praise via head coach to freshman tailback tonight, as Karl Dorrell complimented Ashaad Clayton once again following CU’s third spring scrimmage.
“The more reps he gets, he just gets faster and faster and faster and he’s so much more confident.”
