A powerful four-paragraph primer on the Israeli-Palestine conflict by the excellent commentator and analyst Alon Mizrahi.
When judging October 7, people must realize (or must be made to realize) that Israel's plans to ethnically cleanse Gaza were not a reaction to the events of that day - no one comes up with ethnic cleansing spontaneously - but rather the other way around. Palestine's violent resistance has always been a reaction to continued attempts to ethnically cleanse all of Palestine from its indigenous population, which have been going on for over a century. The Palestinians are the ones trying to defend themselves against sustained and organized action to destroy them, but the West supports their attackers and genociders because Palestinians are (mostly) Muslim and brown, and Ashkenazi Jews are white and connected to echelons of power in the West. That's the true story, and no amount of coercion and colonial rewriting of history will be able to change it. It is the only story humanity will know when all is said and done, because it's the sole unadorned truth. October 7 was not the cause of ethnic cleansing, it was the result of ethnic cleansing. Had Palestinians been left to live their lives, no resistance group would ever have been established

@alon_mizrahi Thanks, Alon, for that powerful and succinct explanation. It should be taped up in every western newsroom rather than the garbage they're made to digest about Israel having "the right to defend itself."

In Jabalia, the resilience of the Palestinians emerges via a tent erected in the debris like a castle of resistance.

So reassuring to see vehicles arriving to clear rubble & help with reconstruction in northern Gaza. It's hard to get a clear picture of how much aid is getting into Gaza, despite the requirements of the ceasefire deal, because Israel, of course, wants it to remain uninhabitable.
The entry of 50 vehicles, including trucks and bulldozers, has begun to clear the roads in Beit Hanoun city.

Extraordinary, and while it's bad enough that she's completely deranged, the greatest irony is that Trump is so very evidently a believe in no god at all, except, in his delusional dreams, himself.
Evangelist Paula White has been named by #Trump as Head of the White House Faith Office. She is completely, absolutely, UNHINGED.

A useful thread showing the extent of international condemnation for Trump's proposal for the forced displacement of the Palestinians of the Gaza Strip.
🧵There has been widespread global condemnation of President Trump’s plan for the forced displacement of Palestinians in Gaza. Israel, for now, is the only country supporting Trump’s proposal to seize Gaza’s land, expel its population, and transform it into a “Riviera of the Middle East.” Here are some of the reactions ⬇️

An extraordinary image by Anas Al-Sharif showing the rudimentary tent city that has arisen in the ruins of Jabalia in N Gaza. No one doubts the Palestinians' spirit & resolve, but they urgently need international help with rebuilding, which is still being blocked by Israel.

An important statement from Grenfell United about Angela Rayner's shameful decision to approve the demolition of #Grenfell Tower without meaningful consultation with the bereaved and the local community. Solidarity as always!

An illuminating thread on how Musk's USAID shutdown is indicative of his wider war on Congress, as he seeks to effectively destroy lawmakers' crucial role in government; a coup, in other words, by an unelected & unaccountable menace.
The state of play, a week into Elon's assault on USAID. USAID is in a state of suspended animation - it has been powered down, but it's not *quite* to the point where it can't be powered back on. What happens next comes down to the courts & Congress. 🧵
