I see a lot of people complaining about DRep compensation. I’ll just say a few things on it: A. My personal belief is that DReps should not be compensated, at least for now. There quite simply isn’t enough governance work right now for a DRep to justify getting compensated 🤷🏻‍♂️ just my opinion here. In the future I could see a need for compensation, but out of the Cardano treasury could be dangerous. B. Lobbying is coming regardless. As the importance of passing a budget, and everyone’s vested interests in said budget, there will certainly be backdoor deals, compensation, and certainly bribes. C. It’s impossible to enforce. Many wanted clear verbiage in the constitution but since it’s simply not enforceable, it’s more of a code of conduct to hold DReps accountable to. They should or shouldn’t be compensated is seemingly just a suggestive measure. D. Welcome to politics 101. The most popular people will have the largest voting power. That said, there are ways to combat this. Delegating to trusted, proven community members who continually showcase their good will is a viable path forward. The only true way to combat this is by mobilizing, so the ADA you delegate truly does matter. Again, we are very early in this governance process and it’s great to see the community diving into all the same discussions we had as delegates. It’s never been more important to be involved in shaping the future landscape of Cardano governance.
