The reality is that its a war. 13,000 KIA Hamas combattants in a war that Hamas started. That's not a slaughter its a war. 1.3:1 civilian to combattant ratio is a tragedy but it's also the lowest such ratio for sustained urban warfare of the last 50+ years.

They are explicitly saying a ceasefire will not release even a few of the hostages. Those demanding a ceasefire cannot pretend they are also advocating for release of hostages. Unless serious pressure is put on Qatar, there is no hope for a hostage release.

We also sent from 2016 to 2022 half a billion a year in aid to agencies in Gaza of which an unknown proportion has been approproated and converted into arms by Hamas. Gaza received tens of billions from EU and UN for water desalination and other infra never built.
