Yes because they have very little connection (if any at all) to the Anglo-Saxons. This isn't the case with us Greeks. Out of all Greek variants through time Westerners always focus on the classical part and Attic Greek 🤷‍♂️ Classical Greece was a failed civilization. It was on a path of falling to the Persians right before Philip II unified the Greek world back then.

You have to define "people". Medieval societies were based on class and social status. Commoners (peasants) felt little change initially (other than a rapid introduction of feudalism and the destruction of their clan-based institutions) but quickly succumbed to the rulings of the new Norman elite. In just 200 years very few Germanic traces remained. England was just another European feudal society with French holding key role as a language of the elite and the court.

Anglo-Saxon England (Ångland) and modern Britain are two distinct civilizations. Nobody wishing to come close to English culture learns the language of Mercia. Furthermore, English culture as we know it today started forming after the introduction of French at the court by William the Conqueror and the elimination of 95% of anything Anglo-Saxon predating his conquest. This never happened in the case of the Latin or the Greek world. Ottoman rule had little effect because the ecclesiastical institutions predating it continued to exist. Ironically secularism proved much more fatal to them than the Ottoman state.
