We Are Stroke Survivors – A Shelf of Strength and Stories 🌟 On January 17, I shared the exciting news that I had secured a shelf at the Casual Poet Library, a unique literary space in Singapore that celebrates community and storytelling. Today, I’m thrilled to share that my shelf is officially set up! 🎉 With the help of Francis Bounlom, who designed the shelf and guided me in tracking my books using Libib, everything is now in place. Each book’s ISBN was scanned, making them part of the library’s catalog—ensuring that anyone visiting can easily find and borrow them. This isn’t just a shelf; it’s a space of resilience, inspiration, and shared experiences. I’ve named it "WE ARE STROKE SURVIVORS", a tribute to everyone who has faced the challenges of stroke and continues to move forward with courage. Alongside my books, I’ve also included: 📖 "I Found My Smile" by Joanna Toh a heartfelt book about rediscovering joy after stroke. 📷 "Walks of Discovery and Recovery – Soul Good" by Poh Choo Tan a photography book capturing moments of healing and reflection. 📅 A calendar of SNSA Singapore National Stroke Association events and messages from Aphasia SG, offering support and resources to stroke survivors and caregivers. 🎨 We are still waiting for stroke survivor KT Wong’s artwork titled "Still Me 我還是我", which was created with his affected (weaker) hand. His piece will be a powerful addition to the shelf, reminding us that life can be gray or full of color—it is our choice to paint our story beautifully. I have four books that will be housed on this shelf, each representing a different part of my journey: 📚 A Cry in the Dark: A Stroke Survivor’s Story of Hope and Recovery – My debut book, sharing the raw and emotional story of my stroke and the fight to find my voice again. 📚 Emerging From the Dark: Wish I Knew About This – My second book, shedding light on the struggles and lessons learned during recovery. 📚 The Boy And The Man: Unleash Your Potential. Rewrite Your Story – A graphic novel adaptation of my first book, showing my inner journey through powerful illustrations. 📚 Strength in Motion: The Next Chapter of Stroke – My third book, a continuation of my story, focusing on resilience, healing, and the power of movement. 📚 Thunderstroke: A Poetry Memoir Inspired by a True Story – My latest and final book before I embark on my next journey into film. This poetry book is not yet available, and I am eagerly waiting for its arrival so I can share it with you all! For me, this shelf is more than just a place to showcase books. It’s a beacon of hope, proving that despite life’s challenges, we can still write, create, and inspire. It’s about building a community of survivors, caregivers, and anyone seeking strength through stories. I invite you to visit Casual Poet Library at 123 Bukit Merah Lane 1, #01-110, Singapore 150123, to explore these books and be part of this journey. 💡 "We only live once. If you keep looking at the dark sides, you will regret that you did not live. It is your choice to make your story beautiful." – Kt Wong Thank you to everyone who has supported me on this path. Let’s continue to share our voices, inspire one another, and show the world that we are more than survivors—we are storytellers, artists, and warriors. 💪📚🎨 #WeAreStrokeSurvivors #StrokeRecovery #StrokeAwareness #WritingThroughAdversity #NeverGiveUp #CasualPoetLibrary #BooksThatHeal #ArtForResilience #AphasiaSingapore #SNSA

A Heartfelt Thank You to David Lim 💙 There are moments in life when someone’s words touch your heart so deeply that they feel like an embrace. That’s exactly how I felt when I read the foreword David Lim wrote for my upcoming book, THUNDERSTROKE: A Poetry Memoir Inspired by a True Story. David is a name that resonates with courage and perseverance. As the leader of the first Singapore Mt. Everest Expedition and someone who has faced immense personal challenges as a person with disabilities, his life is nothing short of extraordinary. To have him write the foreword for my book is a true honor—one that humbles me deeply. David wrote: *"Terence Ang is an extraordinary person. It’s not because of his recovery from a stroke - we see many afflicted and who have recovered. He’s extraordinary for being able to articulate that experience of hopelessness moving to hope through perseverance via his poetry, narratives, and illustrations. THUNDERSTROKE is a welcome addition to his collection of other titles detailing his personal journey from an unexpected stroke, and his comeback from that catastrophe. The poetry in this book touches the rawness of helplessness and the darkness of a situation where there seems to have no end. Aided by his illustrations, THUNDERSTROKE joins a body of growing literature of the personal experience of losing what was once familiar, and living a life with new constraints and new hope."* His words remind me why I embarked on this journey of sharing my experiences. After my stroke in 2022, there were moments I felt like I had lost everything—my voice, my purpose, my sense of self. But through poetry and art, I found a way to express what words alone couldn’t convey. It became my therapy, my healing, and now, my gift to share with the world. David’s foreword isn’t just about the book—it’s a reflection of the struggles, the perseverance, and the hope that we all strive for. It’s a reminder that no matter how dark things seem, there’s always a path forward, even if it’s a path we never imagined walking. THUNDERSTROKE is my most vulnerable work yet. It’s a glimpse into the rawness of despair but also the light of hope. And I hope, when you read it, it speaks to you in ways that remind you of your own strength. Thank you, David, for your belief in my work. Your words carry me forward, just as I hope my poetry will carry others. 💫 THUNDERSTROKE launches 28 February. I can’t wait to share it with all of you. 🎥 For more on David’s inspiring journey, check out this video: #Thunderstroke #Gratitude #PoetryMemoir #StrokeSurvivor #HopeInAdversity #HealingThroughArt

Welcoming the Year of the Snake in Style! 🐍✨ As someone born in the Year of the Snake, this festive season feels extra special to me. I love decorating my house during the festive periods, and this year, I’ve decided to take a creative approach by blending old and new traditions to welcome the Year of the Snake! 🎄✨ I’ve repurposed past decorative items like my Christmas lights and the pot of pussy willows, adding a fresh touch with vibrant Chinese New Year ornaments. But the highlight of my decorations is a poster I drew myself—a beautiful and meaningful illustration of the snake, symbolizing wisdom and resilience. To make it even more unique, I’m using the playful and artistic JungleFont 樂樂體 for some commissioned calligraphy pieces. They are simply stunning and bring a contemporary flair to traditional designs. Another favorite touch? Gorgeous Ang Pow 红包封 with the theme 蛇么都好 ( 么都好-红包封-everything-good-good-shunshunlili ) that I’ve used to add festive vibes around the house. These red packets bring color, charm, and luck into the space, and I absolutely love how they’ve turned out! Decorating for this year has been so fulfilling, combining creativity, culture, and personal touches. I’m looking forward to celebrating the Year of the Snake with family and friends in a space filled with warmth and joy. Wishing everyone good fortune, health, and happiness in this auspicious year ahead! 🐍🧧✨ How are you decorating for the Year of the Snake? Let’s share some inspiration! 😊

A Personal Milestone: A Shelf in the Casual Poet Library I’m thrilled to share some personal and exciting news: I’ve secured a shelf at the Casual Poet Library! Starting February, my books ( and the voices of #strokesurvivors everywhere—will have a home in this beautiful, dreamlike literary space nestled in the heartlands of Singapore. For me, this is more than just a bookshelf. As a stroke survivor, every milestone feels like a victory. This shelf represents resilience, hope, and the power of stories to heal and connect. Through my books, I’ve shared my journey—from the confusion and despair of my stroke to the rediscovery of my voice and creativity. And now, I get to share that story with an even wider community. But it’s not just about my journey. This shelf will also be a space for messages of strength and books by or for stroke survivors. My hope is to inspire, encourage, and remind anyone who visits that life’s challenges can lead to new beginnings. The Casual Poet Library is a special place. Vogue described it as “a dreamlike new literary space taking root in a heartland neighbourhood,” and they couldn’t be more right. Nestled in Alexandra Village, it’s surrounded by old-world charm—a bird shop, a barbershop, antique stores, bakeries, and of course, Singapore’s amazing hawker food. What makes it even more extraordinary is its ethos: “Community is a verb, not a noun.” —Cormac Russell This shared library is entirely community-funded and curated. Each of the 180 shelves belongs to an individual who shares their favourite books and helps keep the library alive. It’s a place of creation, connection, and collaboration, built on openness, trust, and respect. I’m so honored to be part of this community and can’t wait to see where this journey leads. Whether you’re a stroke survivor, caregiver, book lover, or someone seeking inspiration, I invite you to visit my shelf in February. The Casual Poet Library 123 Bukit Merah Lane 1, #01-110, Singapore 150123 Let’s celebrate the stories that bring us together and remind us of our shared humanity. Here’s to creating, sharing, and connecting through the power of books! #stroke #strokerecovery #strokeawareness
