I had made a mistake forgetting certain android devices use what it’s called xxxhdpi icon format, which requires drawing a much bigger version and dividing the icon in foreground and background.
Luckily we released an optional soon after so my artistic soul could be at peace 🥳

At first I tried 2 different ideas that I shared with the team: one more disruptive, with the skull inside the monster’s eye.
The other one represented our brand icon being affected by both Godzilla and the mutations. We chose that direction as a better blend of the two IPs.

So 2 months ago I was working on this new app icon at home, and I came up with the idea of the leaves surrounding the skull. But with the first rough I felt it was going too far from the default game icon I feel so much respect for, and started working on a more conventional one:

First stop: Godzilla impressive Hypercharge skin! The goal is for this new rarity to offer everything legendary skins include + the HC transformation. So the special pin reflects that aspect of the skin, completely changing Buzz to Godzilla.

The sprays I made them very early on and for a while I feared they wouldn’t make sense as the City Smash game mode design kept changing, and having both Godzilla and Mecha Godzilla was not always part of the plan 😄

Leaving for the last part my favourite 3 pins of the bunch!! Godzilla movies typically includes many locations getting destroyed by the monster, so I tried to capture what would happen if the big G would hit the Starr Park.

Once it's ready and shared with the team, if it's all OK I put the asset in game, ready to be displayed in the shop and in-game. Did you know we can define the spraying vfx to have any colour? I love those small details in the implementation.
