Srinagar Police Busts Major Drug Racket: 8 Kgs Heroin Seized, Two Key Traffickers Arrested In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Srinagar Police successfully intercepted a major narcotics consignment, arresting two drug peddlers and recovering 8 kilograms of heroin. A police team of Police Post Qamarwari, during a routine checkpoint at Barthana Crossing, intercepted a vehicle (Tata Sumo, bearing registration No. JK05D-1837) with two individuals on board. A thorough search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 6 kilograms of heroin concealed beneath the driver’s seat. Moreover, during personal search, 2 kilograms of the narcotic substance were recovered from the suspects, with each concealing 1 kilogram of the narcotic substance in polythene bags. The arrested individuals have been identified as: 1. Anas Ajaz Awan, son of Ajaz Ahmad Awan, resident of Dildar Tangdar, Kupwara 2. Zahid Ahmad Sheikh, son of Nazir Ahmad Sheikh, resident of Channipora, Tangdar, Kupwara The narcotics and the vehicle used in the commission of crime have been seized as evidence. Case vide FIR No. 03/2025 under sections 8/21 and 29 of the NDPS Act has been registered in Police Station Parimpora, and further investigation is going on. Preliminary investigation has revealed that the recovered narcotics were smuggled from Pakistan as part of cross-border drug trafficking network. J&K Police is actively pursuing both backward and forward linkages to dismantle this syndicate and identify all individuals involved in this illicit trade. J&K Police remains resolute in its mission to eradicate drug trafficking and ensure the safety of the community. We reaffirm our zero-tolerance policy against narcotics and pledge to bring all those involved in such criminal activities to justice with the full force of the law. In a relentless efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs, Srinagar Police has arrested 04 drug peddlers and recovered contraband/psychotropic substances from their possession. A Police party of PS Kralkhud intercepted a vehicle (Etios) bearing registration number JK01AH-5637 at a checkpoint established at Kralkhud Chowk. The two persons onboard have been identified as Nadeem Shafi Kashani son of Mohd Shafi Kashani resident of Sathoo Payeen Barbarshah and Ashiq Ahmed Hundoo son of Late Gh Rasool Handoo resident of Abi-Karpora Dalgate A/p Hamdania Coloney Bemina. During search, 04 grams of Heroin was recovered from their possession. They have been arrested and the vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized. Meanwhile, a Police party of Police Station Safakadal arrested two drug peddlers at a checkpoint established within their jurisdiction. They have been identified as Nabeel Showkat Zargar son of Showkat Aziz Zargar resident of Safakadal Haftayarbal and Shahriyar Ahmad Mir son of Mir Ishfaq Ahmad resident of Rathpora Eidgah. During search, 11 bottles of Codeine Phosphate & 30 strips of Tapentidol (banned drugs) have been recovered from their possession. Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigations have been initiated. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that J&K Police are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.```
