@steamingboots The red band to the south was a typical 'SAR arc', which is a phenomenon which occurs simultaneously with the Aurora, but is something different, although its appearance resembles the red of a Northern Lights show.

@JAtanackov We drove 7 hours southwest to Étretat to have a big chance of clear skies throughout the night. One show after another occurred from dusk till dawn, so many I lost count. Aurora and associated phenomena spanned the entire northern firmament, sometimes well south of the zenith.
