Just heard the sad news that Stephen Moore has died. He WAS Marvin, the Paranoid Android. He was a fine actor in theatre, films and radio and a funny pleasure to work with. His Whale and Petunias monologue will live. 'Wretched, isn't it?' as Marvin would say.
That's the guy I met in '78 for the pilot of HHGG. Glamorous, friendly, absurdly talented. Later, watched him lie naked on the stage of the NT's Lyttleton Theatre, at the start of Hare's 'Plenty.' He was brilliant in the play. And in Clockwise. In the lot. RIP.
Mick Lynch of the RMT says funding cuts made by a "government of billionaires" are to blame for rail strikes - accusing ministers of 'telling everyone else they've got to tighten their belts while they're raking it in'.

I have just listened to The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Secondary Phase, Fit the 10th, for the first time since 23rd Jan, 1980. Its bloody good. Douglas at the top of his game. You have 29 days to escape this melancholy earth, on iPlayer. Also, John le Mesurier, superb.
Have you ever seen anything so fucking stupid as culture warring and bigging yourself up for minimising actual, high and dangerous 90/100mph wind gusts in a storm?
We’re out and about Eunice. Because we live in Britain. Because we have children to take to school, business to attend to, work to do. And because our parents faced the Blitz.

1966: The Frost Report was first broadcast.
Starring David Frost, the supporting cast included Ronnie Barker, Ronnie Corbett, John Cleese, Nicky Henson and Nicholas Smith. Julie Felix and Tom Lehrer provided music.
When Roy did Hitchhiker, Geoffrey Perkins needed some background speech to go under foreground dialogue. So, as compere, Roy proceeded to riff a sequence of hilarious introductions to groups in the Restaurant at the End of the Universe. So brilliant, so nice, so missed.
Oh woe, oh woe, Roy Hudd has died, and it couldn't feel more like the end of everything. Great comic, great heart, great actor. Here he is as Bud Flanagan in 'We're Doomed', underplaying the role with the most exquisite pathos:
Make sure you don't watch this video of Nigel Farage thanking Steve Bannon & Breitbart for Brexit: "You helped with this. Hugely."

To whom it may concern : We get it, you're not interested in football for superior reasons we can't begin to understand, and which you insist on enumerating on social media. Leave us to our herd fun and catalogue your stamp collections, or whatever it is you think more worthy.
Savile, it has been reported often, spent all of every Christmas at Chequers when Thatcher was PM. All the great and good invited to lunch, drinks, dinner saw the paedophile there. At court, but not in one.
Superb. Many Happy Returns of the Day! Appeared in court before his Judge and

's QC in Thunderpants. Happy memory, especially as the child actors convened after my scene and seriously told me I'd done 'quite well'.
“We found 18 bodies in there. They had been torturing people. Some of them had their ears cut off. Others had teeth pulled out. There were kids like 14, 16 years old, some adults. They just took the bodies away yesterday.”

This is terrible, sad news. Favourite memories are doing 15 Storeys High. Hail and Farewell, way too soon.

If you're the Dutch prick who shouted 'Bravo' before the last note had died of Strauss's Alpine Symphony conducted by Haitinck in 2011, I hope you fall in a canal. [Recording on R3 tonight. Wonderful. Until Amsterdamtwat.]
Corbyn & May would both have described a good result as vindication of their Brexit policy.

The idea that this is a case of, 'oh, they hate him, the lefties', ignores the fact that millions of people previously unaware of Cummings, now loathe, disbelieve and despise him and the PM.

So it's herd infection. To placate the laughably-named Covid Recovery Group, and to try to save his miserable skin. How many new cases yesterday, how many deaths and how many Long Covid cases may result? Politicians who won't make you wear a mask but will disenfranchise you.
"We are a nation of drivers"????
Uh, yeah I guess so. We are also a nation of bed users. Of breakfasters. We're carpet fans. We are a nation of tap users. We are a nation who likes to use pens.
We are a nation of microwavers, of shoe-wearers.
We are a nation of eyebrow-havers.

The line of his I remember most is in your Spinal Tap, where, after remarking his hair is also long, and needs a haircut, he says, 'I'm joking of course.' It makes me smile about once a week. Sorry for your [and our] loss.
