Industry Rule # 7. Talking is the biggest pet peeve for the people who actually get shit done. Just do the work effectively, and the credit will eventually come.

Industry Rule # 6. Offering value is only effective when itās filling a need. Dont try to force yourself into a position thatās not needed. First, get in where you fit in, and then find a path to where you want to be when opportunity arises.

Industry Rule # 4. Honesty is the best policy, but the timing is just as important as the truth itself. Be aware of the mood of the person youāre delivering bad news to, and donāt pile on top of other recent issues. Simply put, pick the right way and right time to present info.

Industry Rule # 3. Follow up without annoyance. Most people never follow up because they donāt want to be annoying. So follow up in a week, and then again in another week, and if they donāt respond then, assume theyāre not interested. Maybe your paths will cross when itās time.

Industry Rule # 2. Use name dropping as an enhancement to your personality, not as a replacement. Thereās no reason to drop more than one name per interaction, unless itās organic and completely relevant to the conversation.
