First, we install some wind and solar.
NEXT, we shut down our

plants.
FINALLY, we burn lignite coal to make up for the loss of

Plant *right now* to protest the early and unnecessary closure of 1.4GW of clean power.
This is like chopping down 4000 (2MW) wind turbines.
It's an environmental tragedy.

Germany faces a power crunch 🇩🇪 ⚡️
The nation isn’t adding green energy quick enough as it exits nuclear/coal
That means its ability to meet peak demand could shrink over the next 2 years, increasing risk of blackouts

If Germany would have spent $500B on nuclear, they could have built roughly 100GW of it, which would produce about 800 TWh of electricity a year.
Germany consumed 588TWh in 2021.
If they went nuclear they could have totally decarbonized and had extra juice for millions of EVs.
Germany pushed the snooze button on the global warming alarm clock.
It's burning 13% more coal since last year.
Coal is making a comeback & shows why spending nearly $500 billion on unreliable wind & solar power was a bad investment.
The Korean government will facilitate the exports of Korea-developed APR1400 nuclear reactors to Poland & the Czech Republic, as part of a broader policy drive to advance and normalize the often-demonized source of energy, nuclear power.

NUCLEAR IS responsible for nearly 20% of America’s power generation and about half of its clean energy. It’s greener than fossil fuels and more reliable than renewables. - The Economist
After almost 5000 letters were sent by European pro-nuclear NGOs in the last 6 days:
"The European Commission has announced that it will include nuclear in the EU’s sustainable taxonomy..."
WE DID IT! NUCLEAR: SUSTAINABLE!
Little known fact:
#nuclear
power actually has slightly lower life-cycle emissions than solar. In the future when we're making concrete and running fuel manufacturing processes with cleaner electricity and heat, we can bring both those numbers down to near-zero!

Did you know that...
When taking into account every step of production for solar energy, from mining for the materials to make the panel to their installation, solar energy produces 40 times more radiation than nuclear energy.

None of this had to happen-- they had a 2200 megawatt clean energy warrior that could have run for another 40 years! It really underscores why we need to save Diablo Canyon before it's planned shutdown in 2024-2025.

will ever be.

You could power the entire US electricity grid off of the energy in nuclear waste for almost 100 years. If you recycle the waste, the final waste that is left over decays to harmlessness within a few hundred years, rather than about 10,000 years as with standard (unrecycled)

This counterfactual infographic imagines what could have been if Germany had not phased out nuclear energy. Unfortunately, fossil fuels still make up almost half of the country's share of electricity.
RIP Hunterston B-1, which powered down for the last time yesterday. Along with its sister reactor B-2, it made almost 300 clean TWh over its lifetime. Assuming coal/biomass would have been burned without them, the plant saved about 5000 lives otherwise lost to air pollution.

We've been working to save nuclear in Ohio for TWO YEARS. We knocked on over 43,000 doors, sent 1000s of postcards, emails, and calls to make the case that *we need these plants*
Finally that work, and the work of thousands of others involved in this push, has paid off. ⚛️✊

And none of them are, especially after all the steps taken post-Fukushima to ensure backups-to-the-backups of cooling equipment!
And yeah, we should also be building TF out of reactors considering they require the least land, mining, and are historically the fastest to scale up.
