Right before this I got a call that my cousin was being rushed into surgery in a Hail Mary to save her life. I didn’t know what to do, so I just…went to my audition & trusted myself to just do my best. My cousin was released from the hospital yesterday. And I booked the part.
I’m really good at compartmentalizing when life happens. But yesterday I showed to an audition, no headshot, resume, or script because I’m literally in “doing my best” mode right now. They didn’t have to be, but they were super chill about my flub. I really needed that kindness.

There’s always a reason why you’re not booking—some you can control, but mostly others you can’t. But when things are slow for me, I focus on preparing for the next thing. Taking classes, doing workouts, updating my marketing materials. You never know where your next job will be.

I’m really good at compartmentalizing when life happens. But yesterday I showed to an audition, no headshot, resume, or script because I’m literally in “doing my best” mode right now. They didn’t have to be, but they were super chill about my flub. I really needed that kindness.

One of my goals this year was to increase my acting opportunities and build an on camera resume. Sure it’s the end of Oct, and sure I didn’t start auditioning for on camera work until Aug, but tomorrow I start filming on my second short of the year. Small steps are still steps👏.

There is no faster way to send an actor into a spiral of doom than a rejection email. (They’re wholly unnecessary even when done w/ purest of intentions. Unless you’re offering specific feedback like “I 🤬-ing loved what you did and would love to work w/ you in the future…”).
