That’s temporary cavitation. A few thousandths of a second later the tissue would return back to relative normal, because human tissue is quite elastic, but I assume you know that.
Blowing ear off is not consistent with other reports of similar wounds to thin sections of flesh.

Armalite(Fairchild) was a R&D firm for Fairchild Aircraft and Engine corporation that designed the AR-15 explicitly for the US military. They weren’t a manufacturing firm, they sold the tooling and sole manufacturing rights to Colt in 1959, who made millions of AR-15’s for the US

It’s not just a sniper rifle, it’s an anti-materiel rifle, meant to do things like detonate unexploded ordinance from a distance and take down stuff like comms equipment and light armored vehicles. You will literally never need it in a civilian sense.
