Had a fantastic morning providing a keynote for the Class, Race and Place Conference 2024, hosted by the National Centre for Reconciliation, Truth and Justice, in conjunction with @AWCAcademics. A real privilege to experience that in front of so many outstanding academics.

@NN19741810 They're saying customers should buy more from them because they're struggling, because heaven forbid, they might need to raise their workers wages. That it was at NMW in the first place means I don't care one single hoot about their pish business going under, buddy.

@Nor_man_nor_man Exactly. What grips me is the 'we are not running a charity' when it comes to expensive goods in stores. Fair enough, but don't ask for charity in return from the people you denied it, or when you pay workers poverty wages. Can't have your cake and eat it, pardon the pun.

@NN19741810 It's the lowest amount an individual can legally be paid, so obviously it's a bad thing. One person on a single minimum wage, cannot afford to live a normal life in today's climate. Hence why it's going up. 😉

@BeldamLascar Absolutely, always the last thing considered, and you even see that staff wages are the last thing they've bothered about in that previous post.

"Small business", in many cases - not all, so don't "gotcha" me like that's what I'm saying - equates often to poor conditions and low wages. If you can't run a business without exploitation, then you shouldn't have one. Tory morality is not a metric for justification!
