As part of the 15 day storage we check the operation of the Nose Wheel Steering. Nose wheels placed on two steel plates with grease between them. First with the handwheel to 75° left and right and then with the pedals to 6°. #avgeeks

It was normal on the DC-10 for the outer nose wheel to come off the ground at high steering angles- it was possible to change a wheel without a jack this way. My guess would be inexperienced mechanic taxing for maintenance

Yesterday, we replaced the No.2 engine bleed Over Pressure Valve (OPV). It’s right above the engine core, 12 o’clock position. So thrust reverser cowlings open. It’s a simple valve, just two clamps and a plug, but a little awkward to reach. The old one had a minor leak.

Some aircraft have been prepared for longer periods of storage than other- for a period of 30 days or less, engine, APU and pitot and static covers required. Batteries disconnected and hydraulics, fuel and tyres checked every 7 days. Thrust reversers and packs and more every 14.

Well here’s the source of the leak. No.2 engine pylon hydraulic pressure line leaking from the swaged fitting shown. We had one available at LGW, so after a few hours of spannering, cleanup and testing, she’s good to return to service. #TeamOrange 💪👍
