Day 1 on the job, and I’ve already found the best help. Thank you
@aikenhighschool
and
@AHS_Hornets1
for the opportunity of a lifetime. I don’t even have words for describing this moment. I’m so happy to call this place home! GO HORNETS!
Pet peeve: Why are players so anxious to get out of their pants and/or jerseys so quickly after games? You only get to put that stuff on so many times in this lifetime. Why rush it? One day, you’ll wish you could put them back on.
Why do I pick up random trash in the hallways? I like to think my parents did a good job of raising me…but I’d also like to win a state title one day. Every little thing counts
Thank you all SO MUCH for your kind words! This accomplishment is nothing short of all of the sacrifices made for me in my 33 years by a # of people. The grace of God is wonderful. To all that shaped me, I’ll be forever indebted to you!
Love emails that say “Best D2 Prospects Available...”. Sorry, but our “D2 Prospects” would Smoke some of the “D1 Prospects” on “D1 Teams.” Bet our starting rotation of “D2 Prospects” had more draft picks than some of those “D1 Prospects” on other rotations. The “D1” thing is dumb
Really starting to believe the full-circle moments of life are worth stopping and appreciating. I’m thrilled, honored, and humbled for this next adventure.
Horses STILL run 🤷🏻♂️🐎
‼️27 Days until Opening Day‼️
Wearing
#27
this season is assistant coach Gary Asbill Jr. The former Pacer catcher returns to the dugout to serve as the catching coach and and head of minin’ (taking care of the turf grass). We’re very excited to see Gary in a Pacer uniform again!
“How lucky am I to have something that’s so hard to say goodbye to.”
@uscabaseball
I owe so much to you. The things I learned while playing and coaching here are countless. A piece of my heart will always be at The ‘Bert.
“…he doesn’t like Coach Asbill.”
Coach Asbill isn’t here to be liked, and he doesn’t care if you don’t like him. He’s here to win games. If you’re bought in, you’ll like it. If not, you won’t.
Will someone please hold a clinic on pitchers NOT WALKING OFF THE MOUND ONTO THE GRASS? One of the 9 million things I’ve seen tonight that kids should know before they get to high school.
Why do I coach? Why do I teach? You ask these questions all the time.
Then, you walk in to get an oil change, see a former player in the military, have a deep conversation, and it all makes sense.
I’ll never take a win for granted again, but I’d trade every one for this morning
Please say a prayer for
@ReaganFairchil2
as he undergoes surgery tomorrow. May God guide the hands of the surgeons and place him on a road of much success at the next level.
“Coach, what I can do to get my grade up?”
“Lift.”
“That’s all I gotta do?”
“This is weightlifting…”
“Why I lose so many points?”
“You don’t lift…”
“But they don’t lift either!”
“That’s why y’all have the same grade, actually…”
End of Q1, students trailing…
Canceled flight yesterday leads to the greatest breakfast I’ve eaten in my 32 years as I was blessed with the opportunity to eat with NY Yankee and Gamecock great Coach Bobby Richardson. It’s amazing what this game has done for me! Such a blessing!
Hop in the truck, feel the phone vibrate. 8:52 AM: “I’m at the field and I didn’t see anyone there. Is there no BP this morning?”
We don’t start until 10:00 AM. Pull up, and 3 are already there waiting and ready.
Looks like we have some hungry T-Breds. What a start to the day!
Was the Cannarella ejection touchy? Maybe. Was he addressing the other team after the issued warning? Yes. Everyone is making assumptions, not knowing exactly what was said. Maybe what was said is worse than you think 🤷🏻♂️
Bottom line: say nothing to the other team, & no issue.
One of the better HS baseball games I’ve ever seen. What an atmosphere. Two teams full of talent and absolutely competing with all they had. Baseball in SC is pretty dang good 🤷🏻♂️
Very honored to have been chosen for this award! Working at this place is amazing, and I could not be more thankful for Dr. Hawkins and
@jasonholt56
for choosing me for this award. Unbelievable start to the day.
As I started year two as HBC today, it’s just funny how, in so many ways, I was just not a good coach last year. We all have to improve every day. I’m just very proud of how I handled some adversity today, and it’s the faces in our program that helped me do it!
Very thankful and excited for the opportunity to coach at the
@diamondprospect
Palmetto Games this year. Love being a member of this great group who pours into players and coaches throughout the state. One of the best decisions I’ve made!
Opening day on our end, but a piece of my heart will be with
@SaludaFootball
@SaludaBaseball
and
@SaludaHigh
today on the field just as they have been since my departure. May God be with you all today and onward on a day no one should ever have to experience. ✊🏼 I love you guys.
@hornetbaseball_
visiting
@TBredBaseball
Friday night in playoff action.
This is what it’s about, folks. There’s no reason both sides shouldn’t fill the Lumber Yard.
Let’s make this one one to remember. A big night for the city of Aiken. Let’s make sure we fill it!
Let’s. Go.
To say I’m proud of our guys in
@hornetbaseball_
is an understatement. Love each of these guys. They’re an unbelievable group that are becoming MEN. Can’t wait to get back on the field with them!
Day 1 of
@hornetbaseball_
conditioning in the books. February 1, hurry up! Proud of these guys. It’s easy Day 1, but are you going to be the same in 3 weeks when the newness wears off?? Anyone can show up for one day. Create energy every day, or it won’t be there. LEADERSHIP! ✊🏼
Woke up today, overtaken by a number of arguably undeserved birthday wishes of which I’m EXTREMELY thankful, and I realized a great thing. I’m blessed, and we have baseball today! Very excited to see my brothers from
@SaludaBaseball
today at the
@PeachRidgeInv
I’m absolutely sick to my stomach over the George Floyd incident. This country is in a bad place right now. Even worse, WE control this. When are we all going to get on the same page and just friggin’ LOVE one another??? It’s probably easier that way.
As I head to this game, and having had Rush’s yesterday, I had the thought that even the most judgmental person would never judge someone for going to Rush’s two days in a row. YOLO.
So, let me get this straight. We aren’t going to do the 9/11 lights this year, remembering the one time in the USA where PEOPLE ACTUALLY CAME TOGETHER AS ONE?!?! Isn’t that one of our bigger issues here?!?! You’re really screwing this one up, NYC. BIG TIME! Get a clue, people.
I’ve coped during this, but this morning I realized I’m over this no baseball thing. Let’s get this thing finished so we can fungo backspin two-hoppers again.
I think it is cute when you catchers do your little pop time videos as your body is turned completely. “Oh, I threw a 1.78.” 1st off, no you didn’t. 2nd off, I believe the main job is “catch.” You’ll never throw like that in-game. How about do it the way you’re supposed to. ✌🏼
Worst days of the year: Valentine’s Day, first day of school, first day back from Christmas break, weather makeup days, the day after ball season ends 😔
As a coach, when a season or summer ends, you always want one more with that group. As painful as it is, the beauty is in the end because it is not until then that you can fully reflect and appreciate what was built. Best of luck to the
@ship71baseball
boys moving forward!
It’s GREAT watching
@hornetbaseball_
players suited up in football unis this morning! PLAY MULTIPLE SPORTS!!! Stop thinking you have to specialize. Learn as many athletic movements as you can! The goal is to be an ATHLETE! College programs like those guys.
One of our seniors today: “Coach, I see how hard it is to play at the next level. I wish I’d began this hard work in 8th grade” (not that he hasn’t been working hard the last few years ✊🏼).
Playing in college is NOT easy. It’s NOT for everyone. If you want it, start yesterday.
Seeing tweets about composure and how Beamer lost it. Nah. As a HC, sometimes you have to lose it a little to show you won’t take your guys getting a bad shake. Easy to do when you have dudes that battle for you day in and day out.
Sooooo the
@hornetbaseball_
hurlers Jacob Patsourakos and
@trey11johnson
combined for 8 innings, 0 runs, and 2 hits on the mound this weekend for
@CanesSouth
. To say I’m a proud ball coach would be an understatement.
In the dugout writing the lineup, and I hear the field being dragged. Look up to see
@JCochcroft14
has jumped on the 3-wheeler and is dragging the field before the game at the field in ATL today. This is an elite level of bought in.
@CanesSouth
Why am I tired of COVID? I coach a game, and I can’t even go over and talk to players afterwards from the opposing team whom I’ve coached in the past and invested time in. The relationship factor means more than anything!
I understand how good MLB players are, but these salaries are ridiculous. People work their tails off to support their families, yet we watch these dudes get 14 yr, $360 mil deals to hit a ball, pick it up, and throw it. Coming from a baseball dude, that’s wrong. Just wrong.
I love how tough coaching is considered “sorry” or “bad” coaching;l. Love spraying out the weeds in turf grass just like I love weeding out players that can’t handle the heat and high expectations!
If there is one thing I miss about HS baseball, it is the fellowship and networking of the
@BCAofSC
clinic each year! Looking forward to getting out and seeing some of you guys this spring! Best of luck to all!
Love it when players take the initiative after a tough weekend to get some coaching to improve. Not 24 hours past our final game Sunday, and our
@CanesSouth
guys are hungry for coaching. One of the many things I LOVE about this game/organization!
Umpire calls time, goes to the 3rd base coach and says “coach, your guys can’t clap when the pitcher is delivering the pitch.”
Not a single word/action directed at the other team.
Baseball is in a rough spot, people. God forbid they have to play in a game with any noise.
Covid, we couldn’t control. Transfer portal, we could. So many HS players aren’t getting a chance that should, but the portal has created a “rent” vs “invest” mindset. Let’s get some regs out. This isn’t growing baseball.
Foul ball off the cap off the brick wall. Ball comes back to the C. Looks at it, throws back. I asked the umpire to check the ball. He says “catcher checked it.” My response: “Maybe he did, but it’s your job.” Tremendous attitude I received. You’re paid, big dog. DO YOUR JOB!!
Literally saw a kid fly out to center today and walk back to the dugout. Not the first step was made towards first. What’s happened to make kids think this ok?!?? Glad I’m surrounded by people, at all levels, that still appreciate this game for everything it is worth.
PLAYERS (both at Aiken HS and everywhere else): THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH PLAYING MULTIPLE SPORTS! IF YOUR COACH DISCOURAGES IT, THAT IS A MAJOR ISSUE, IMO. Be an ATHLETE, not a _____ player (fill in the blank with whichever sport in which you’re trying to “specialize”)
Stop criticizing SC fans for wanting LSU to win. I remember a time when SC won back-to-back natties in baseball and knocked on the door for a third in a row. I saw an overload of UCLA, UF, and Arizona fans in SC. It’s a rivalry for a reason. That’s what makes it fun.
Had a parent tell me I shouldn’t care about her son if I taught him last year and don’t teach him this year and to not dip into his business. My bad for keeping him out of trouble many times this year. Thanks for showing me where his ignorance comes from.
#AppleTreesProduceApples
Walking through Wal-Mart and Sam’s, I feel like I’m about to have a Mortal Kombat showdown with Sub-Zero or Scorpion every time I turn a corner with all of these masks people are wearing.
Imagine a coaching staff where you have THREE coaches from cross-town wanting to buy into a culture change! LET’S GO!!! Not to mention a former HC AND another in-building hire on staff. Looking forward to a great spring/future.
If you are a baseball person please join the challenge of posting a baseball photo. Just one picture, no description. Please copy the text in your status, post a picture and look at some great memories/pictures.
Missing baseball so very much. Greatest game in America!
Shoutout to the store manager of the Sprint has station in Graniteville. Place my coffee on the table, and she says “is that all today?” I replied with “yes ma’am, surely is.” “She says “Have a great day!” Went to give her money, she said “Have a great day,” smiled, turned away.
Ok, just so there’s no more confusion. Football season and wedding season are not at the same time. If you want to get married in the fall, there’s this waste of time weekend before rivalry weekend. Choose that one. Otherwise, NOT on college football Saturdays. Bye.
Unbelievably proud of my
@CanesSouth
17 dudes. Fought adversity all weekend and found a way to come out of the gate screaming for a 10-4 W to end WWBA.
