In the first design, I did not want any connections to the central sinkhole station other than the gondola carts. I believed this would create an incentive for players to use the carts. I soon discovered that the player flow, options, and rotations sucked. 😂

These shots show off some of the iterations of the pumping facility's interior. The main overlook control room layout stayed the same roughly. The downstairs interior changed quite a bit. It was too claustrophobic and complex. I ripped down the walls and opened the room up.

That's just a slice of the iterations Lava Siphon went through. Lava Siphon would not be what it is today without my colleague's feedback, having confidence in my design decisions, and just hopping in-game and playing the layout constantly. I love the blockout iteration stage.❤️

I sought new challenges when designing Pahanu. I wanted to create unique Gears combat encounters. As the What's up says, this is a unique twist on Gears combat. I have always loved full-on wilderness/forest environments in MP maps. Glad we got one in Gears now.😀

GEARS 5 TIP: Did you know you can cover slide into cover backwards? Not sure if anyone has noticed yet. Just hold back and tap your cover slide button. It can be very useful for certain situations.

Fun Fact: In Game Design school 2013, I presented to my class that my dream job was to work at Epic Games as a MP level designer on Gears of War. 2014: Microsoft buys the Gears IP, to be developed where I reside and I secure a job as a GOW MP level designer. Dreams do come true.

Inspired by Bonsai Plaza (one of my fav POI's), my aim with The Lotus was to offer players multiple ways to reach the top, unlike the limited options provided by Bonsai. This complexity adds depth to the buildings, but over time, they become easy to navigate.

To keep it short, there were 3 designers on the map. I was responsible for the overall vision, and layout. I designed many POIs, flow, and most buildings.

Ryan and the weapons team have done a great job in bringing universal tuning to Gears 5. Lots of feedback and constructive arguments were made across the last few years to get it to where it is lol. Excited to play with the public as I’ve been playing the same people for too long

Yes and no. Valk ult yes, for the majority (not all). Evac tower survival items can but it's up to you as a player to figure out where. There are so many variations of verticality that can aid you in finding spots where they make it feasible.

I just played my best endgame ever. All I can say is I played it perfectly. Lava Siphon, gondola escape 1hp no loot (resed), Solo win (teammates dead). It felt so rewarding as I designed Lava Siphon and it was my baby in dev for so long and I played it so well 🥲 I love

This easter egg can be found in Horde or PVP (Except for Escalation) that being said, good luck trying to do it in a public or ranked match lol. Not saying it couldn’t be done though. Also it can be done solo, but numbers could make it easier.

We put A LOT of thought into every change with this update. The amount of QOL updates is immense. The rotation changes are the boldest changes and I believe they will improve the map immensely.

This is a layout of a bunker used in World War II that I visited yesterday in Berlin, Germany. Such an amazing structure built in 8 months. It is now an art gallery. Wanted to share this as it looks similar to Gears maps and thought it was cool!
